I bought a '98 E1 SVT that supposedly had a toasted motor. The previous owner said he thought it might be the rod bearings. He has had the car since August and hasn't been able to start it and it was basically all the info the owner before him had passed along...... He bought the car knowing about the damage and was going to fix it but has run out of room and didn't want to take on the task.

I trickle charged the battery for 2 days and I just went out to start it for the first time since atleast August. It started right up for me :shrug:.

It is actually really smooth and quiet! I can't believe it. I recorded it because I thought I was going to hear some horrid sounds like a herd of cattle running through a gymnasium......

Heh thats what my blown engine sounds like.

Wish I would have taken some vids of my car being push/pull started it was quite the circus.
 
you got one helluva deal there man. I wonder what the previous owner was hearing that caused him to sell it.

Anyway, congrats on the awesome find. :cool:
 
Time for a 3L !!!!!!! mine sounded worse (had a bad belt idler) mmm clanking with whinning great mix!!!!

I'm sure you will have it looking good in no time. and getting it cheep is the most important part....
 
That motor is bye bye. lol your cold! Its that time of the year when us southerners begin to rag on the northerners. Ill be outside in my shorts and tank top tomorrow. :)~ suck it!

Are you kidding? Mine sound just like that and I tried to drive it up to where we swapped to motor ~10 miles. Lemme just say it just got worse and worse. Didn't make it there either.

Love the 3L though!
 
It actually scared me when it first started because it was so violent. The power steering fluid was squirting out all over the belt and spraying on the floor.:nonono:

No check engine lights either :D, just no coolant :blackeye:.

Definelty 3L time, I already found one with 45k for under $300 delivered.



Oh yeah svttour!! You go wear you freakin shorts in the stupid warm weather. I will be continuing to snow blow the 10" we got last night and another 5-10" today. I love winter :throwup::nonono:.




My favorite part is when the car goes "poof" at the 52 second mark :D.
