Racing seat install, Help!!!!

Looking to get an OMP Grand Comfort racing seat! Just dont know how to install it. Im asking questions here and there to see if they have drop in seat mounts and sliding rails and such. The rails are universal but the mounts are the problem!

For those of you that have already installed racing seats and such. What problems did you encounter with this and what was the solution. Any advice with the purchase of this seat. I am almost determined this is the only seat I want and an OMP for some reason.......:shrug:

Any Info is greatly appreciated.

One way to go rather then finding a custom seat made specifically for the Contour is.....

Find and a set of(contour) seat rails from the junk yard.

Use the factory rails and have them mounted/welded to the seat frame.

Not sure about the adjust ability of the seats you have, but make sure the angle of the bottom seat is where you want it. (if it's nonadjustable)
 
RHD doesnt change the seat sizes. I will be modifying a euro drivers bracket so i can have power both seats soon. :)

also heated seats front and rear all 4 racing buckets will be amazing :)

again it would be way to expensive to import the parts. and I would think that the power seat controlls would be on the other side so they might interfer with the center console.
 
oh, yeah, wouldnt be power,

dont believe the si's are, the st's are though

could always go crazy and weld the brackets like a mini truck, but then I guess any seat would fit

I hate power seats, 25lbs per seat of extra weight, because somebodies arms dont work? WHY....

thats like adding twice the weight difference you'd gain from a carbon hood, wtf

go to wedgeengineering.net they make brackets for Sparco, Recaro, etc. and definately have them for the Contour. In fact, i still have a full set in my garage I haven't used.

You will need to measure the rail mount width on the OMP seat to make sure the distance between the rails is the same as the rest, but wedge will make adjustments to the design for you if you tell them exactly what you need.

For the love of all that is good and right, please please please people, do not use the cheap crappy knock-off "race seats". They are not tested properly, and use cheap reclining mechanisms that can fail in a crash when you need the seat to function correctly the most. Always always buy your seats from a known reputable manufacturer that has a significant amount to lose should they produce a faulty seat. Personally, i would never run an aftermarket street seat from a company other than the likes of Sparco, Recaro, Corbeau, Bride, Flo-Fit, etc. (I'm sure I'm missing some).

Amyn, if you haven't ordered brackets yet, send me a PM, I have a set that I will probably never use . . . we might be able to work something out, and then you don't have to wait to get some made.
 
^ it's true, my seats are nice and tight(they don't rattle or move much), but again, for me these were mostly an easthetic upgrade, in the near future i will be mounting my front seats now in the rear and getting 2 new real seats from probably corbeau.


Also, i recommend a harness bar or at leats a rear strut bar for seat belt mounting, mounting to the floor will cause paralysis in the event of an accident above prolly 40 mph i'd say.
 
I was going to say that for tha front too.

a roll bar/harness mount with your seat belt on and the seat is unlikely to go anywere

I've heard the "cheap seats kill" comment before, but how many times has this actually happened, and with what cheap seats?

alternatively, you could pull the foam and covers off the cheapo seats and put it on the oem fram, but that would be a lot of work

I'm glad we got your assessment, because you obviously have so much automotive design experience, especially in safety systems. Roll bars and harness bars bring thier own problems, as do 4+ point harnesses in cars not equipped with appropriate rollover structure, and even having a rollover bar or cage without using a helmet brings significant risk of injury in any type of accident. Crash safety systems are very carefully engineered to work TOGETHER as a system, and changing any part of that system can have serious repurcussions in an accident if it is not done with the same level of care and understanding of the physics involved. "Upgrading" or modifying parts of that system, including the seat, or harness, or rollover structure of the car without understanding the tradeoffs and ramifications is a really bad idea.

You will never hear about it, unless someone files a large lawsuit, which is unlikely to happen with one of these fly-by-night seat sellers that import knock-off junk from China, simply because they won't be able to before the company disappears and reforms under a new name.
