...by the Candia, NH police...

Anyways, I have two questions... When the officer states you your violation, like in this case "I had you going 62 in that 50 back there," what should your response be? I was stuck on this one since I thought you were not supposed to admit to anything, so I said "oh"... Is O RLY? the proper response?

Second, I got off with a warning, at least that is what I am calling it... When he came back to my car all he said was "watch your speed buddy"... That would be a warning, right? Now do warnings go onto their system? Like I know people who have been pulled over for speeding several times and have received "warnings" each time...

So I guess that I am going to revert to 5 MPH over now, even though I had gotten way with 10 MPH over for three years... To tell you the truth the ride home felt slow as hell going 5 MPH over, LOL... At least I know my speedometer is correct though, because it said I was doing 60 and my tire size adds on a couple MPH at that speed...

Verbal warning or written warning?

Paper ones get ignored by your insurance, but are logged in the police files for your plate. Verbal ones are as if nothing happened.

When I've gotten pulled over for something like that my response is just "Sorry, sir." They don't want to hear a story or lame excuse, plus you stand to ruin your chances for a verbal warning.

Of course, it helps that I have Firefighter plates and stickers. I usually get the "Take it easy, ok? Don't wanna lose your nice car."

Verbal warnings mean nothing. He probably checked your record, saw it was clean, and was feeling nice.

The first time I was pulled over, I did this spacey airhead "oh really?" and stared at my speedometer as though I expected it to confirm out loud. I apologized and said I had no idea I was going that fast.

The second time, the officer asked me if I know how fast I was going. Of course the answer to that was "no" so he gave a curt "well I know" before going back to his car.

Written warning on the first one (MA statie and I was clocked by radar so I got real lucky), verbal on the second (I was a fool and out-accelerated a cop on rt 12).

I have some experience in this department. I get looked at funny for being a puerto rican along with how I sit in my car, ask anyone at the Saratoga Springs meet.

First rule of thumb, always be as honest as possible. Most cops don't even care what you say, they usually look/smell more for DUI and DWIs. Thats what it sounds like he pulled you over for. A 62 in a 50 is speeding but most cops let you get by with 5-10 over depending the area and road. City cops suck and usually state troopers are the most down to earth.

A written warning is a summons and can't be issued for a moving violation such as speeding or stop sign, it can only be issued if you have a no point ticket that can be cleared in 24 hours. Examples are inspection, registration, headlight and tail light being out. If you don't fix the problem within 24 hours and show the officer that you have fixed it by going to the police station of the issued ticket, it then becomes a fine and failure to pay will/may get your license suspended after the tickets due date.
Usually you won't get points for these tickets.
A tint ticket is a catch 22, pay the fine to keep your tints or remove atleast the front 2 and rear window to avoid another fine and possibly the fine in general. If they cannot see the driver you will get pulled over (again depending the cop).

A ticket is a ticket, your screwed, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars, LOL. I always plead "Not guilty" and take my chances to see wether or not the cop will show to court. No show, ticket is dismissed. If the officer does show then you have the chance to speak with them prior to the judges ruling and then you have the option of going to trial.
These tickets do add points to your license and with too many points your license gets suspended, a no show in court will do the same and after time it will get a warrant for your arrest.

This is how things usually work in NY and when I lived in NC it got me out of trouble as well. I have blown stop signs, speeded past and worse and have gotten pulled over to usually get a warning. Calm, Cool and honesty works best. Also let them see you pull out your License and registration rather than have it in your hand when they approach your car and have your glove box open **(Unless you do have something to hide ) and if you have dark windows roll down the ones in the front. If you have nothing to hide and keep it real with them 9 times out of 10 they'll tell you to keep it moving.

Hope that helps.

Hmm I find that the Staties are the ones to look out for, and not the city/town cops. Only one city/town cop has given me any crap. All the rest were really cool and understanding. The Staties have all been real freakin' jerks. Many Staties, from what I have seen, are really into themselves and don't like being wrong.

And about the whole thing of getting your license and registration out early...I usually have my license out ASAP, and then pull out my registration (in the glove box) afterwards, that way I don't look sketchy, but I'm "prepared," so to speak. CruzCorp is right. Just stay calm and cool and just be honest. Last time I got pulled over was at 4am. I was coasting down a hill where the speed limit was 35, and I was going 50. I just told the officer I thought it was a 40 and that I wasn't paying close enough attention to how fast I was speeding up while coasting down the hill (I honestly did think it was a 40, the road is designed like it...). He let me go with a verbal warning. Honestly, I probably wasn't what he was expecting. He probably was expecting some intoxicated individual or some rude-a$$ punk. But I was just a regular, responsible, sober kid, 1 hour into an hour-and-a-half car ride home after a party

+1 on the "depends what town you're in" deal. If you're in a town that has legitimate problems, cops aren't really worried about silly traffic "laws." Yay for hartford and waterbury!

I hated driving around Storrs though. Cops were awful there! I still can't believe one of them pulled me over solely because my plate bulbs were out

as for written warnings.. how are these 'filed' ?

i had a written warning ~year+ ago in southwick. and i also got one a few weeks ago and the statie in w. springfield sounded like she saw nothing on my record. (southwick is in the same state as w. springfield for those out of towners)

Written warning? Maybe they want you to put on your refridgerator so you don't forget?
NY doesn't have those, either your free to go or you got a summons or ticket.

I agree, town/city cops do depend where. I have never had a problem with state boys, ever, makes me wonder why now.... The problem for me is once I leave the city I live in I lose the pull I have, gotta love connections! And living in Westchester county, one of, if not the most expensive county in the country to live in, they get thirsty to make quota. And the rookies, forget about it. The staties and and others that bust balls for the little things, they are usually rookies. Got pulled over twice this year in my city and once I show them my license I tell them the chief won't be happy if I have to go pay him a visit and I am usually free to go.

Wow, what the heck... I just got pulled over today (the next time I drove the car after the event of my original post) for having a rear tail-light out...

I better just stay home for a few days, for the safety of my driving record

LOL, thats the first ticket/summons I ever got and I was driving the Zetec, LOL. You won't get any points for it so your okay. It's funny that you say that because everytime I get pulled over I usually get pulled over again in a short time period, like a week. It's like they track your car or something. Damn GPS, LOL!

I got pulled over the other day for not having a front plate. Sure I get pulled over in a town with only three cop cars, but not by a Statie. I had driven by a few dozen other cops and none had said anything. Oh well, after I wash my car again I guess I'll put my front plate back on

Well I did not get a ticket, he just "let me know" and put it in the system so that if I did not fix it and got stopped again I would get owned...

I thought you did not need to have a front plate in Mass... Did they change that law?

MA definitely needs a front plate. It's been like that for as long as I can remember.

CT requires one as well, but they are not as strict on it. I see cars driving around without them everywhere. I removed mine from the SVT and I was fine for a long time. I was pulled over back in November in the town I work in. He said put it on by the end of the week otherwise they will stop me again and ticket me the next time around. I didn't drive the car in town for another 6 months. I've never been bothered anywhere else though.

as far back as the green-lettered plates at least. if you have green letters on the plate there is only one. when they switched over to red letters two became mandatory. some people are still driving around with the solo green-lettered plates and it makes me jealous.

So you can continue to have the green-lettered plate as long as you want? I've seen them around but didn't know why only certain cars had them.

In CT when we switched to the new style plates, they randomly mailed out new plates over a few years time and you mailed back the old ones. Now everyone is using the new plates no matter what.

As long as you want to transfer the registration, you can keep the green plates.

I get seriously jealous of people with only one plate.

Well as long as you transfer the registration over to another vehicle, then you get to keep the plate. This is also why many plates exist that aren't even LEGIBLE anymore...

if they aren't legible, you are supposed to get new ones. but i haven't seen a lot of enforcement of this.

my mom turned in her green plate last year. i wanted it, she got it the year i was born.
