ok so i was at the local junkyard the other day and they had plenty of pre98 contours and mystiques and i was up there getting a bunch of parts and one of the things i wanted to get was a pre-98 antenna base for my 98 SVT. So anyway i tried a million differnt things on trying to get it off but nothing seemed to work . must of broke 6 or 7 of those things :-( . So is there a how-to for unininstalling the pre-98 and 98+ antenna bases? and also if i can seem to get the pre-98 off or if there arent any good ones left what is the part number for the base from ford? (or wou;ld it be something stupid like you have to buy the whole antenna assembly which would be rediculous)
Anyway any suggestions would be apriciated.
Thanks
Alex

I'm not sure why you would have trouble getting it off. First you must remove the retaining nut on top, which is a common fastner for antennas but uncommon by other standards. You need a special tool, a screwdriver (perhaps with a hammer to lightly tap the nut loose), or long nose pliers.

Once the nut is off, you may need to remove the antenna assembly from inside the trunk. At this point, the antenna base should be loose, although it may be somewhat stuck to the paint.

You ask about a How-To for EVERYTHING!

Stop breaking the bases and take off the two top nuts! Get an antenna socket set if you can't do it with a screwdriver gently.

i know i am lol. i like them n they make everything so much more simple. so basicly use a flat head scre driver and tap it lose with a hammer and or use wrenches?

just twist it off, pull of the black plastic piece and your set. Maybe just get the whole motor and everything off one of the old ones. The 98s and newer I know only have two nuts inside the trunk to take out

There is a special antenna removal socket. Drops into those 4 little notches on the antenna base. You can sometimes use a flathead or pliers to unscrew it but it's tricky to do without scratching and gouging it up. Especially if it's tightened down really tight.

I wasn't able to remove mine without the antenna socket.
