Hey everyone,

So i recently replaced my a/c compressor due to the clutch needing to be replaced. I don't know if it worked before i replaced it but when i replaced the compressor and turned on the A/C the clutch did not engage. Pulled the plug and tested for power and there was nothing. Any one have any idea what the pathway is for the A/C system so i can try and figure out where the loss of power is occurring. I know there is a relay in the engine bay and tried switching that but no cigar. When i turn the knob in the cabin things i can hear a change and an increase in the blower increase for max A/C. So i guess that is working but i won't rule it out just yet. So anyone with any ideas?

Thanks
dave

THe main pressure switch that stops the compressor is the low pressure switch. IIRC it is on the top of the reciever/dryer. Jumper this and see if it powers the clutch. DON'T keep the system jumpered though. I found out the hard way when troubleshooting a problem with my old car and siezed the compressor. If your system has enough freon the switches should allow the compressor to run.

I was trying to charge the system but doesn't the compressor need to be on to do that? And what do you mean jumper the switch? Thanks for the info and quick responses guys!

Thanks dave

The can has enough pressure in it to bring the system above 25 psi or where it begins to switch on/off.

Jumpering means to take a piece of wire bare on both ends and stick in/on the connector contacts to bypass the switch, or 'jump' it.

Ok great thanks for the info. I will try those things and see if I can get it going.
