I bought aFord Contour SVT 1998 E0, 163K mi. not running ( it sat for 2 yrs.). I have it runninggreat in the few months except for a persistent CEL light with code P0171 and P0174 lean on both banks. Possiblya false lean. I am trying not to just throw parts at it. Any ideas before Itake it to a local shop. Here are the details…
Original problem from previous owner:
Bucking stalling. Shorts in harness found.
Parked for 2yr.
Replaced:
Wire harness from ECU/firewall to Engine (made it from ’99Cougar ATX)
Battery
Fuel filter
Fuel pump
Plugs
Bank#1 O2 sensor
Upper intake manifold (UIM) gasket
Lower Intake manifold (LIM) gasket
Injector o-rings
Throttle body gasket
EGR gasket
Exhaust manifold gaskets / studs
Vehicle speed sensor, due to bare wire
EGR Differential Pressure Feedback (DPFE), replacedwith used part.
Throttle position sensor (TPS)
Cleaned:
IAC
Injectors
Injector rail
EGR
LIM
UIM
MAF sensor
Air filter
Checked:
Checked for vacuum leaks ( has one small leak bank 2 LIMbutterfly shaft ).
Compression ( low 190psi, high 205psi ).
Injector resistance good.
Fuel pres 46 psi with vac connected to regulator / 55 psiwithout vac.

MAFFLOW .36 LB/MIN

Current problem:
CEL : p0171 and p0174 lean on both banks.
LTFT is high, apx 25%.
Plugs on cyl 1,2,3,4 fouled. Plugs 5 and 6 good.
