And my rental car for tonight and tomorrow is a 2008 Taurus.

I'm impressed. Very impressed. Too bad I'm in Denver so I can't really check it out very well due to the snow on the ground.

I would love that engine in my SVT.

I can't believe that Motor Trend wrote it off so easily. Perhaps I need to remember a better name for that magazine is Honda Trend. Just like Car and Driver would be better known as BMW and Driver.

I sat in one a few months ago and absolutely loved it. I'm sure I will be more impressed when I drive it.

very nice cars...your correct about car mag's being

I don't think they're that bad looking of a car. I just don't like the back end, and i would have preferred the 500's grill, but other than that not bad looking. Haven't driven one either, but glad to here its impressive.

Running an '07 Montego from Grand Rapids to Boston a few months back evidenced a solid, comfortable road car with good manners and sure handling. With the suspension tweaks on the new Taurus and Sable, along with the major change under the hood -- namely, the addition of 60 horsepower and half a liter of displacement, these new stablemates should really be something. On top of all that, interior fit and finish is great, the optional wood trim is warm and inviting, and the space is rivaled only by an airplane hangar.

you sound like you've read one to many car review mags:laugh:
that engine is impressive. havent rode in a new taurus w/that engine, but iirc i rode in the smaller lincoln that has it

I loved driving those things at work all the time, they are so much quieter then the 500 or older models. And who cant love going from a 203 hp 500 to 263 hp in the 3.5 :) Someone needs to drop that 3.5 in a contour lol. Also they changed the way the drive system mounts to the body making it lighter and taking out some of the noise.

I was driving one up fill one up for my coworker as he was selling it, and accidentally just smoked the tired forgetting it was not my moms Taurus lol. lucky cust. did not see and was not my sale anyway lol. But the New Taurus, the Fusion and 08 Focus that is very much improved as well, gives me the idea Ford is finally starting to get it done again. I would be happy with any of those 3 cars...just for different reasons.

Just turned it in. Snowed all day in Denver. Still couldn't really feel the performance potential. It was fun to invoke the ABS and Traction Control at will.

The seat heaters were a nice touch. Too bad I didn't discover it had them until this morning.

I'm tempted to write "Honda Trend" to tell them they truly misjudged the car.

Did you check out the Sept 07 issue of motor Trend? it gave it a very good review...I even kept a copy at work just for that reason.

I subscribe to Motor Trend and read it every month, so I must have. I don't remember the review though. The review I'm referring to is the one for the car of the year. I would agree that the Cadillac was the best choice. What I'm complaining about is how they so quickly wrote off the Taurus. They also wrote off the Focus, but I have not driven a new one so I'll hold judgment on it for now.

Equally disturbing was the presumption going into the competition was their admission that they expected Honda to win. They expected it. Honda didn't win, and they went on to say that the new Malibu was a better car. They need to be more objective, and not start off with colored perceptions.

cool have not read the car of the year one yet...but yea they give it a good view in the new car review buying guide, also there was a 4 page artical on it talking about how they brought the Taurus name back and how much better it is from the 500....As for the Focus, I think it needs a little more work, but the 08 was very much a step in the rigth direction. Main problem I have with it is the center part of the dash board is not the most appealing to me, and also they need a motor with more pep as a option, even though I myself would take the 2.0 for the mpg. I am interested to see, if they do in fact come out with new Taurus SHO for the 09 model. Also should be interesting to see what the Fusion Hybred for 09 can do.

I think Ford has a winner, I saw it on Motorweek I think. Looks good, has good power, plenty of room.

For that matter I think the existing Taurus is a good deal too, I see 2004's or 2005's around here with 20,000 miles for $8,900!

Hopefully this is the start of a turn-around for Ford. Now how about a 4-door manual transmission car with 200+ horsepower?

The hard part for me about the Taurus is that to have one with AWD, leather and other extras costs ~$30,000. For that much I would go to the Mazda dealer and by a MS6. The MS6 is a much more rare car and would have additional value outside of the base car. Wheras a AWD Taurus will be the same as any other Taurus. They need a SVT Version!!!

I know that if Ford had not made the SVT Contour I would never even have looked at a standard Contour. When I bought my first SVT new from the dealer I did not even know the cost of an SE because they were not even a consideration.

I think the MS6 is meant to appeal to a different type of driver, namely the enthusiast. Yes for the price for the AWD Taurus you can get a MS6, but it's not as big and not as luxurious . Its gonna be way too sport oriented for everyone. I have no doubt that they will come out with a SHO version eventually, but I think they're trying to get back the everyday customers first
