Scratch 2 3.0 motors.

Joey had a 3.0 delivered to my technician. Looked good inside, and he said it was under 50k miles.

Put it in, good oil pressure, idled fine. After warming it up he drove it. It just started to pull to 6 lbs of boost in 3rd gear and kicked a rod out of the block. All this in 400 yards!

It is not worth sending back for warranty since it came from his area. I hope I can convince the company to send another engine.

I cannot believe this. The world's funnest car sits idle.

the one you just did? oh no:cry: this will be #4 in this car now?

YOu said boost, so I'm assuming it's turbo right? If that's the case, maybe that's your trouble area.

If that was the only reason, then nobody would have turbo cars.

There are numerous other 3L-Turbo cars on here that dont have engine problems.

I know the cause for the first two blown engines, I dont know how exactly the last two blew up.

he said the one before this through a rod at 60 on the highway i beleive

if the engine was looked at and deemed fine, then logic tells me to look at what else could be the cause. And that's why I mentioned the turbo as a possible cause. I know there are lots of turbo cars out there that are fine. I am just trying to help figure out the cause of the engine failure.

WOW thats so weird! If I were you the next motor to throw in there would def have to be forged.

The one before this one, shattered a piston on the highway at 60 mph, then proceded to shoot fragments of said piston through the block.

This motor blew a rod through a nice sized whole close to the oil filter.

Bring it to me and Livin - We'll have it up and ripping primo numbers in no time.

was the intake check for any metal from the previous engine failure? if so was it cleaned?

either there was something wrong with this engine already or something happened rather quickly to cause a bearing to fail and break the rod.

<=== (* Wonders if boost readings are inaccurate and/or BOV has failed *)

Its the HKS SSQV Blow-off valve, which is supposed to be one of the, if not the best blow off valve. And there isnt any boost controller, so it could only see 7.5 PSI.

I dont know what is going on with these motors, but we havent been able to drive it for almost 2 months. And since my Dad and the guy who was doing to engine swap are both in Florida racing for the next week or so, it will probably be another 2-3 weeks before its going again.:blackeye:

Oh well, that just means that I have the fastest Contour in our family, and the area,.

I think you guys need to data log with SCT or get a boost guage so you know you're not getting a boost spike causing these problems. I would trust nothing after repeat failures.
I have a very nice/expensive wastegate and still had a problem with it so you never know.
