so i have the insurance money to get the car fixed. found a door for 80 dollars which leaves me with $1,200. the high school tech schools around my house have auto body classes where you can take ur car in and pay for all the paint and bondo and what not and they'll paint your car for free. so i'm thinking of getting it painted and want to know what color would go with the blue interior.

i'm thinking since black goes with anything and is the cheapest color i'd go with that but i'm thinking that a nice gun metal or charcoal color would be nice. any input?

wow! u got that much for that scratch??? nice:). black wouldnt be a bad color. why not keep it the champagne color? if it was just the door that was affected, then u shouldnt need to repaint it.

i'm not a fan of the champaigne and if i can get the whole car done for less than the door and getting it blended, then i guess why not. i dont think the blue and the champaigne go together very well.

what are you doing spending so much money on you daily driver? so you have an extra $1100 in your pocket and you want to blow it on painting your car? Come on man lets think logically. You have a nice daily driver, its not a show car, its nothing special. Its clean, the paint is nice, its well taken care of, you have a reliable car to drive around. If you want to spend the cash on your mystique, find a set of SVT wheels to throw on there and put the rest of your money in your savings account and save it for a rainy day. Cobrawannabe has a point for once :D

Besides, you are talking about an auto class painting your car... You have any idea how messed up the car could look afterwards? You could turn your clean daily driver into an ugly turd, and have spent all of your money in the process.

Let me tell you how it paid off for me... I was about to blow $400 on a new suspension for my car, which it kinda needs but not desprately, I really just wanted to lower my car. I saved up the cash and one of my close friends advised me to save it and wait a while. So I did... You know what happened? I was GIVEN a contour with a blown transmission. Which means that $400 I saved I can buy a trans with some spare change left over, put a trans in this other car drive it over the winter, then sell my 2nd car for over $1000 and make a profit on the car, and this is even a bad example, I would kill for an extra $1100 to put towards college, thats two, maybe 3 semesters worth of books for school!

Heres a thought.... put that money in a savings account. You will thank me later.

Wannabe and Jerk both make good points. Black is a hard color to do right, and shows EVERYTHING. Highschool auto-body stoners would more than likely just F-it up. Find yourself a deal on a set of 17" wheels and save the rest. I'm not going to re-iterate things that I've already said about this car, but AJ summed it up pretty well when he basically said 'it's a clean DD, keep it that way'.

Please, please don't paint it. Get the door fixed/painted and save the rest for possibly an SVT later. Imagine if you wanted to try to sell your car later being re-painted and the engine bay and door jambs don't match the body exterior body color.......

yeah, you would get considerably less than the car is worth.

Yeah, my first reaction would be "what major accident was this thing in."
You have a nice clean looking 95, and I would keep it that way. Maybe sell the car and see if you can find a SVT for the $1200+the cost of your old car. I know I sold my 98 SVT for $2600....so you might be able to do that.

I know a lot of these suggestions don't sound like much fun -- I was your age, too, once -- but they're good ones.

Fix the scratch and pocket the dough. Drive the car around for a while and find out what the best use of that money is. Maybe it is car related, but make sure. Perhaps, in a year, you'll decide you want a different car, something that you're not even considering now. Those funds will come in mighty handy. You've got a windfall there, and it will feel great to be ready when a car comes up that you see yourself in immediately and just have to own.

I seem to recall suggestions having been made in your past threads. Alloy wheels being on the top of that list.

Best bet is to save the money for future repairs and upgrades. The paint is clean and in good shape. If it is your daily driver, you'll hate yourself for painting it and then seeing salt all over the brand new paint in the winter. I wouldn't paint unless there was a need for it.

If you're determined to blow the cash:
Trade your car on one of those "we buy anything" dealers, and save up a few more hundred dollars. You have enough money to buy an SVT in moderate condition, or a V6 Contour in moderate to good condition. Best of all, it comes in any color of your choice.

ok, so you guys have some really good points, but as for buying an SVT, no. i dont wanna get an SVT. with a turbo and other mods, you still cant hit 12.90? not busting on all of you 3L turbo guys, and the 2.5 guys too. i respect the ammount of power you guys are making, but maybe like u said, keep the color, get just a door and save it. idk. what do you guys say about buying a 3 cyl 5 speed Geo Metro and start building up the 2.0 and try to make the first Contique to hit the 12's? i know wat u guys are gonna say about how its not a straight line platform, but i think its worth a try. how many Zetec guys here have tried that?

The reason why people haven't hit 12's is because of traction...from a roll they will rape a lot of cars out there, and out handle them to boot. The SVT is a perfect daily driver, I don't see why you wouldn't want one. Striker did turbo his zetec, and it did move rather well....then the engine blew up. Hector supercharged his zetec...and it was just as fast as a SVT. Now that i think about it, doesn't Striker own that car now as well?

If you want a performance type car that is going to get into the 12's, you better start saving...because you aren't going to find one for the same price as a decent SVT.

I think it won't do any favors for your dignity or self respect.

As for this drag race Contour stuff, I appreciate your goal of trying to do something different, but I also believe it to be a total waste of money.

If you want something off the beaten path, have you considered picking up a Zephyr wagon and building a nice 302? You could hit the numbers you seek in a setup like that.

it blew up cause of the pistons i chose. had i chose different pistons it would still be running. at 10PSI it moved faster than most 3Ls and i didnt have traction issues.

no, i dont have Hectors old car, that would be ButtonPuncher.

But you're willing to spend $1200 on a paint job for your '95 Zetec?

I fail to see the logic..

anyway .. my point was .. buy "a" car of your choice ... you're not forced to buy a Contour ... but it wouldn't be worth pouring all that money into aesthetic mods for your Mystique if it's a daily driver.
