I was off of work this week and my ex-boss asked me if I wanted to go on a road trip for him so I said yeah, why not. I drove back home from Chicago last Friday night, sold some of my old parts and got to hang out for a couple days before I caught my flight down to West Palm Beach. I got down there on Monday around 12:30 and got on the road about an hour later. I drove from West Palm Beach to Sweetwater Tennessee, 14 hrs, got myself about 5 hrs of sleep and woke up and head towards downtown Tellico Plains to have a quality breakfast at our breakfast place. So I then headed out on the Skyway, it rained the night before and the road was trying to dry itself up but no worries there. At about 3,000 ft elevation the fog rolled in, not as bad as last year for us, but enough to get me to slow down a bit but that was nothing compared to what I encountered next, check it out....

***WARNING, PEOPLE OF FLORIDA, GO GET A COAT RIGHT NOW, I DON'T WANT YOU SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU***

I wasn't able to take any pics from the Dragon because its STILL CLOSED FROM THE ROCK SLIDE! It figures I get to go down there in the lightest, most powerful car I've ever driven on the Dragon and its got coilovers and 40 series tires to boot, it killed me to have to turn around while on the Dragon but I got to drive the section right off of 411 and it was "kinda" fun, I guess but all in all wasn't what I expected for sure, oh well, 6 monthes to go. Not that going later in October is going to net the snow results, but keep in mind the elevation change could affect our run if we do infact go later.

Oh, BTW, this is my "Japanese Focus"....remember all that talk I was doing about wanting a Focus, I got one!

So far I've got those Nokya yellow fogs, LEDs for the license plate lights and pulled the fuse for DRL's (thanks Hectour). Next will be plug-n-play 6k HIDs and those chrome bulbs for my turn signals and running lights. I'll get a muffler and K&N intake, sooner or later. Parkedcar is going to make me Jazz decals, red "H" decals for the wheels and JDM red "H" front and rear emblems too.

Cool pics! Me and a bud back in Feb went skiing in NC. FWD + SNOW= Me getting out and pushing up a hill... Pretty up in the mountains with the snow though. Whats a Honda Fit anyways? Like a Bowflex or autobot?

Great Pictures.
I was PO'd when I heard the news that the Dragon is expected to be closed until July 31st this year for the cleanup.

They aren't in any hurry. Did you see the article (I think) Kingpin posted about TN not really caring if it's open or not, since TN doesn't get any money coming from it since all the businesses and stuff are on the NC side. It'll be open by the time we go in the fall though.

Bidding Process to Begin for Rockslide Repairs

Released on Thu, Mar 25, 2010 - 1:24 pm under
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Work to clear a rockslide that closed U.S.-129/SR-115 is expected to begin early April. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will let an emergency contract to clear the slide on Monday, March 29. TDOT qualified two specialty contractors, Pacific Blasting Demolition Ltd. and Phillips & Jordan, Inc., to bid on the project. Both contractors offer specialized experience in rockslide clearance and stabilization that is needed to repair the substantial and complex slide on U.S.-129/SR-115.

The emergency contract is expected to be awarded to one of the two specialty contractors on Monday, March 29 with work expected to begin no later than April 5. This will allow contractors time to transport specialized equipment to the site of the slide in Blount County.

TDOT’s contract has a completion date of July 31, 2010.

Meanwhile, detours remain in place while the stretch of road known as the Dragon is closed from the slide area to the North Carolina state line. Motorists are advised to continue to monitor the TDOT website at www.tn.gov/tdot for updates and detour details. TDOT is also on Twitter.
