I sold my old hot-rod Volvo about a month ago - I've been on the hunt to build an old American ride & needed some cabbage . I found my fix ... I just picked this thing up last weekend ... it's a '49 Ford Club Coupe . The rust situation is waaaay better than normal (a couple spots of very minor rot , floors/trunk are fine) , certainly within my capabilities (I fix rusty stuff all the time at work) . It will be a mild custom - low & slow , running an old-school 302 w/4-barrel carb (no motor in it at the moment) . I don't have any good pics of it at the moment , so these will have to do , lol . The mags are gone - don't fit the style of ride I'm looking to do - it will have some sort of cool 'caps till I'm done . It'll end up with shaved handles/trunk , frenched stuff , skirts , loud pipes & loads of pinstriping . With a young daughter running around (a bit less than 2 yrs. old) , it's gonna take me a while to complete , but little by little , it'll get done . I want to do most , if not all of it myself , including paint . Then I'm gonna drive the snot out of it !

I'll have updates as it goes ... for now , enjoy these pics .

Please make it a chop top. You will be my hero.

I doubt it'll get a haircut , Glenn - just a pretty good suspension drop & some minor body mods .

SaWeet  !!! I'd love to see some more inspirational pics !

Sweet!! I say you lay that sucker out on some 24's!! Chopping it would be sweet, but stay away from those "ridiculous" chops that don't flow very well.

Cool project!

There are waaaaaay too many unfinished chop-top projects out there - mine will not be another one of them . It's a tough project , way more to finish up than people realize , let alone to make it LOOK good - especially on a round-top car . This car will look good unchopped , so it's gonna stay that way for a while . I wanna drive this mutha ! When I get my Model A sedan that I want (working my way there) , it will be unchopped as well . I like the look of them unchopped - besides , everyone & their grandmother chops them ... dare to be different , lol !

Oh yea ... it'll be a bunch lower , but no 24's on this ride ;) !

Very nice...again, i am very envious.
also very sad that you sold the volvo and i wasnt the buyer.
:(

keep the updates coming.

funny you should say that!!!!

let me show you my grandfathers other car. 29 model A pickup

You bugger !!! That's my unicorn right there ... '29 Model A hardtop truck   . I've wanted one of those since I can remember . Someday ... hopefully .

You had your chance ;) . I'll miss the old Volvo for sure , it was a fun car & I had a lot of time & effort it her . Seems weird to go down to the garage & it's not there .

Nice project car, congrats! Glad to hear that you're not going to chop it. These things can look great without it. What kind of build/style are you going for?

^^ That looks soooo wrong. +1 for keeping it unchopped, also. Some frenched headlights and a shave and she'll look great. I personally picture it with some lake pipes and skirts, and maybe some caddy sombrero caps, but I know that's also a bit cliche for a 49/50 Ford/Merc. Definitely keep us updated with whatever progress you make. I've recently started really liking the 49-51 or so Ford's the last year or so. I'd love a decent runner to use a dd. Any idea what color you want to end up going with?

While I think it's kinda cool seeing that '50 Ford laying frame , the huge chrome wheels don't really do it for me . Mine won't be 'bagged , but I'm going to be doing some stuff pretty straight away to make it a good bit lower . I'm going for a traditional-style mild custom with mine , with a twist - a more modern engine/trans to make it a better daily driver . I'm thinking maybe '55 Chevy side spears , shaved handles , etc. , side skirts , maybe lake pipes & salf flat hubcaps (got plenty of good feedback about that look on my Volvo) , satin paint & plenty of pinstriping . Not sure about a color yet (got a way to go yet ;) ) - my wife likes the look of gray (so do I , but I don't want it to look like primer) , but I'm leaning towards maybe a dark blue (it was originally dark blue) - maybe Hot Rod Flatz "Midnight Blue" (maybe "Midnight Blue Pearl") . I'd like to have my shot at painting it too , like I did my Volvo & my friend's '51 Ford truck project . We'll see how it progresses .

I'm building a '50 Ford sedan with/for a friend of mine that will be very similar . It's already been dropped at least 3" , it's been shaved (handles , trunk) , rear fenders de-seamed , custom hood work , '51 trunklid w/hidden hinges , frenched antenna , modern disc brakes & dual-circuit master cylinder (custom mount) , mid-50's Ford hubcaps , mid-50's Pontiac sidetrim , custom interior , 351 windsor & c-4 trans , and more .... and it's got a bunch more to get done before it's ready to roll - this summer (hopefully) . I'll have some pics of it online soon . I've been getting some good ideas from this build ;) . I'll most likely paint this car too .

Here's a pic of my old Volvo I sold to get my '49 . It was a very interesting daily driver (with a buncha suspension upgrades to spice it up :) ) .
