MP3 Problem

I have a Kenwood KDC-MP4028 head unit with a Kenwood auxiliary input adapter plugged into the CD changer control plug. This is so I can listen to my Sansa mp3 player. I have recently noticed that the sound is only coming from my right speakers when my mp3 player is hooked up. I just pulled the receiver out and checked the back side, and the adapter was plugged in tight. When I am listening to the radio or CD player, I get sound through all speakers, its only when I switch to my mp3 player that I only get sound out of the right speakers.

Thanks,

This may sounds stupid, but sometimes start at the beginning. If the Head unit plays fine with other sources, then it may be in the patch cord or the Mp3 player. Does the Mp3 player play in stereo when hooked up to headphones? If it does it would narrow it down to the patch cord, it may have a short.

I forget, is there an audio settings profile for each input? Maybe your balance setting is whacked out? Is the 1/8th jack plugged in fully in the sansa?

Is the adapter for it the Red/White down to a head phone jack? If it is, one of 'em might be bad. I got one sitting here for you if need.

I'll take a better look at it tomorrow, I looked at it quickly this morning, bacause of the cold weather. I'll take a look at the whole cord, from the back of the receiver to the 1/8 jack.
It wasn't always like this either, I just noticed it the other day. When I first noticed it, I checked the balance setting, and it was right in the middle at 0. I adjusted it to all the way to the left, but still didn't get any sound. The Sansa does play in stereo, and is plugged in fully.
I've been wanting to reroute the wire anyways, this will be my excuse to do that.

thanks,

yeah that's weird. I was running my sansa e260 on my kenwood-mp228 through the aux and never had a problem.

I would say, plug another device in and also try some headphones on the sansa. That way you can isolate the problem sort of.

i had this problem too. i had a Dell DJ and actually wore the inside of the headphone jack off in the player so that anyheadphones/adapters i put in wouldnt make contact and therefore wouldnt play on one channel. if thats the case, the only thing you can do is try to ghetto-rig it some way to make the contact better. i used duct tape

update:

I am using the Kenwood adapter which has the changer control plug on one end and female RCA connectors on the other end. I just routed a new 6' RCA to 1/8" jack cable which is about twice as thick as the other one I was using, and is gold plated. I got it routed from the back of the receiver through the 1 inch hole, down behind the cubby hole 2nd DIN space, and under the center console. ATM it is just sitting where the cupholders should be, I'll be drilling a hole in the storage compartment under the armrest and that's where I'll keep my Sansa while it's in use.

I checked to make sure everything was plugged back in, and tested the radio and CD player. They all work fine, but with the Sansa plugged in, I still only get sound coming from the right speakers.

I guess it could be the Kenwood Aux adapter that is messing it up, I didn't see anything wrong with it though. The old RCA to 1/8" cable, on the other hand, was all crimped up in multiple places.

If swapping the headphone cord still does not produce results, and your headphones work fine in the sansa, then you either have 1. the adapter is not plugged in completely. 2. the adapter is bad. or 3. the port on the acutal cd player is bad, in which case you need to either have it exchanged for a new cd player or fixed under manufacturers warranty if it's under a year old...

good luck, hope it's just a loose connection or bad cable....

Try this to further isolate the problem.

Unplug the RCA's from the back of the receiver and switch them. So L goes into Red and R goes into White. If sounds comes out of the left speakers, then the receiver is fine. If sound still only comes out of the right, then the problem is the receiver.

Do you have a multimeter?
