FUEL ECONOMY AVG: 23 mpg (all interstate)

How can this be??! My all in-town economy is about 21-22 (with 20 being the manufacturer standard)

I dont know, that doesnt seem that low. Maybe down a couple mpg. You could try driving a little slower to keep the rpm around 3000 and would probably see 25-26. I'm not an expert on this at all, but these cars rev pretty high on the highway, which may be why they don't get great gas mileage.

We have the same car right? (I mean everything.. the same lol. 110k miles??) You should conduct a test for highway mpg.

I drove 67-70 mph tops one trip and didnt do better than 24 mpg. This was before the exhaust modifications.

It's a no-brainer that higher RPMs= more fuel consumed but the factory etimate was 29 mpg highway. People on here claim to get over 30! (B.S. :D) and I pretty much baby my car and drive like the majority of contour owners (the elderly.)

I got over 30 mpg but only with the vortec and a cel. I think it was running extra lean which would explain it. My car averaged around 28-29mpg without it though. I only got about 18 mpg around town with the vortec.

I got over 30 mpg on a 6 hour roundtrip. I filled up right before getting on the interstate and right after I got back. Driving 67 or so MPH about 2/3 of the time then 57 the rest.

car is completely stock.

EDIT: Never mind, you guys are talking about SVT's

my svt is getting 28 right now highway mix, but im running lean bcuz of a furl issue. ill report back after fuel pump install

Wind resistance. Drive at 65 MPH and you will probably get 26 MPG. Drive at 60 MPH and you will probably get 30 MPG.

My 95 se mtx went on a family trip from Michigan to Southern Utah in 2004. Totaled up miles and gas used and the car did 29.+ miles per gallon. That was with a trunk full of luggage and travelling with 2 kids in back. Speed averaged about 65-70 on highway with A/C on and a dpfe sensor code that started on the way there.

Well you're just a freaking ray of sunshine, huh.

I should be getting nearly the same mileage as an SVT since I am running almost entirely SVT equipment on my car, and am tuned for the headers, cai, and 19lb injectors. I get 27-29 on average at interstate speeds.

There's definitely got to be something wrong, to get only 12mpg :/ Start checking some valves and such like iac, egfr, pcv (for some reason, imo, these get clogged a lot on contiques).

SVT will almost never get as good as mileage as standard contiques, especially if you mod them and drive them hard.

I have on very rare occassion, with the wind, on the highway, gotten 29mpg. Usually I get 23-25 on a combo of some in-town + some highway. That's on the Mystique LS, auto. SVT getting 21 in-town sounds totally believable as normal.

Sadly... one reason the Contique was a dud line - poor relative gas mileage.

I completely dissagree. coming back from SZ a few years ago a modded SVT got better gas milage on the highway then I did in my modded SE. but driving 65 mph through PA in the middle of the night helped that. its all in the way that you drive. iirc we both had headers and some sort of exhaust plus intake. taking it easy with a engine that breaths better increased highway mpg.
