LuK SVT clutch kit?

I'm not sure what the condition is of the clutch in my parts car, and so I've been trying to source an SVT clutch to put in. I had an SVT clutch in previously, but it got fragged when my diff scattered through the bell housing. Would love to go with an SVT again if possible. I found a comment about Parts Geek and getting an SVT-spec clutch for a good price. I'm looking on Parts Geek, and how do I tell if I'm getting the SVT spec clutch kit?

Part number listed for 99 Cougar: 5729-07083867
Part number listed for 99 Contour: 4979-07083867

I won't know until Friday afternoon if I need a new clutch or not, but once I find out, I want to order something ASAP and hopefully get my car back up and running sometime next week.

Or, if someone else has a good link for a good clutch that can take some moderate hard driving for a good price, I would appreciate that as well. Thanks.

Please search for info on the site. Sachs is OEM for standard non-SVT contours. Luk was the maker of SVT clutches.

Some posts from other members should help you pick a clutch. Blu_fuz and FFE bought the six spring clutchnet disc with closed spring windows. You can use with a Luk/SVT pressure plate and flywheel.

blu_fuz and svttour have threads on their experiences with clutches in their 3L cars.

And blu_fuz report on LUK recently

Thanks guys, just trying to sort out what I should do here. I loved the feel that the SVT had, but don't exactly have $400 to drop on a new clutch right at the moment and I need the car back ASAP to start doing some longer distance job hunting (15mpg in my Jeep just kills me right now). I don't want to take shortcuts and want it done right, but for a reasonable price as well. I am already going to go with all Amsoil fluids when I get everything back together, I just need to figure out my clutch situation.

Don't cheap out on the clutch. Often these two things don't belong in the same sentence "want it done right, but for a reasonable price"........ If you want it done right, do it yourself to "save money" but buy the best parts you can.

Also, "good clutch that can take some moderate hard driving for a good price" tells me that you need to stay away from LUK clutch discs.

what recommendations would you give then for a clutch? probably 90 percent or more of my driving will be casual, normal driving. i dont plan on beating on it really much at all right now. im also always very easy on clutches and my current clutch would have tons of life still left if my diff hadnt sent debris into the bell housing. i have a fidanza flywheel already on, but have no idea what i should do clutch wise. doing it right does outweigh budget and time, so if the luk clutch is that much of a risk, then i definitely would rather wait and get something right the first time.

I have about 55,000 miles on my LuK clutch (SVT-spec, bought from Ford), with a couple of seasons of autocross. Still bites nice and hard.

I had about 25,000 miles on my LuK clutch (SVT-spec, bought from Ford) before the center spline coller broke.
