My mechanic is working on a 1996 that some one traded for work at his shop, it needs a computer maybe..still going over it. It is a 5 speed V/6.
148k I can buy it for $650.00...What problems are common at this mileage? ..Im not up on these cars, but I like the idea of a beater manual shift. The previous owner does maintain their cars as he knows the owner.

I'd buy it but that's me. problems to look for include but not limited to bad wiring harness / broken coil springs / bad(plastic) water pump probably changed at this mileage but:shrug:/ check engine lights (o2 sensors) ect welcome

He did replace part of the wiring harness, some wires were brittle..
Once it's running right I will drive it...for that price I dont think I can
lose too much, I will post again when I drive it.

PCMs rarely fail in these cars.
Ok, well thats something he was considering, but not 100% sure.
Initally the injector harness was brittle, if I remember right. He is working
on the car when he gets extra time...plus he fixes cars on the side, so mine is not on the fast track, but with them being an electric diagnostic shop and reg. mechanics, I know it will be resolved ..and Im in no hurry.
Just to get a car that cheap, that is fun to play with works for me..myself
I have titled close to 275 cars lifetime, so Im a car nut..

Great! I plan on buying it providing it drives out ok when it's ready. If I
dont buy it, I have wasted all these great replys..thanks!..

You will enjoy it once running right. I drove my sister's 1995 Mystique V6 with 5 speed the other day. After 160 kmiles, still a sweet car.

I stopped by today, first it's a 1996, edited here. He is not getting an injector pulse, probably a bad wire obviously..he is wanting to get it running whether I buy it or someone else does, to free up the money he has in it. Hopefully he will figure it out soon, w/ an ALLDATA service at his shop...he should..

At that mileage, it has probably already seen all the early component failures -- water pump, wheel bearings, starter, alternator, sensors, blah blah blah. Up and running, it's definitely worth a measly $650.
