My rear driver's side door was smashed in a parking lot recently and it needs to be replaced. I've found several used Contour doors in local scrap yards, but none have the 1998 SVT E0 door ding guards to match the rest of my car. Finding an SVT in the scrap yard is difficult enough, much less an E0 with a good door, so I figure this is my best shot.

I know a lot of you guys have removed the door guards -- does anyone have one sitting around that they'd be willing to sell me? Silver frost would be ideal so I wouldn't have to paint it, but not a necessity.

I have one in tred. If you cant find silver let me know. $15 shipped ill send both rears as ive been thinkin bout trashing them anyway

I have a set of EO in black. They are useless to me so just pay shipping. I wondered why I even kept them. PM and I will send pics

Thanks guys. If I can't find them in silver soon I'll PM one of you. I've found a door but I'm not picking it up until next week, so I'll give it a few more days.

I'm glad some people kept the guards! The body shop I got a quote from wanted about $70 just to repair the damaged one (not including paint). For that price I'd just remove them all, but I'd rather keep the appearance (mostly) stock.

I have a spare set in silver on my parts car but I've been keeping them as one of those "just in case" parts. I'm just not sure if I'm ready to part with them yet. :ponder:

FYI, these were not specific to 98 or SVT. These go back to 95 models. Mystique's used these ding guards, while others had a smaller, more low profile ding guard that weren't tapered at the ends. My brother's old 95 Mystique GS used them so you shouldn't have any trouble finding one in a junk yard.

Other Pre-98 ding guards:

I would remove them.. Car looks great without them IMO. and still looks stock unless you know the car.

If it was a 98.5+ I would because I think those look tacky. But I think the ones on the E0 actually look good so I'd prefer to keep them.

Thanks! I didn't realize that they were also used on the Mystique. Was the Mystique also available in the same silver frost color? If so then my best bet may be to look for one of those doors so I don't have to worry about painting or replacing the door ding guard.

I had planned to pick up a door from a junkyard last week, but after going to look at it in person I was not at all happy with its condition and so I'm still searching.

No problem. Silver Frost did show up until 1998 so unfortunately you won't find any Pre-98's in the color you need.
