I got some new Koni shocks today and I am not happy with the finish on them. Each shock has several chips in the finish, has anyone else experienced this or is it just my dumb luck?

Wait until you see them in a year or two if you DD this car in the winter :blackeye:. I would suggest you even put a thick ass coat of clear on those just to help them last longer before you install them......

pretty common, Koni expects these to see a beating so the paint finnish isnt that amazing on them, have fun installing them without scratching the paint, you have to be wicked careful.

I have been in contact with Koni, well actually someone from ITT (Energy Absorption Devision) they are the parent company. They apologized and asked me what I wanted them to do, I asked for them to send me new struts that weren't already chipped. I also asked that they examine the struts before sending them to me and use extra packing material if necessary to avoid it happening again. We'll see what they say on Monday. I would like to at least start with an unflawed set so I can add a good layer of clear to them like Joe said.

The next time mine come off they're gonna get a flat black paint job. Not because of damage but because I hate that I can see the yellow as I walk up to unlock the car. Even my mom asks about them and she always said she hated how low my mazdas were.

Its going to get chipped regardless..... if not chipped they get rusty after a couple on your car.

I recommend throwing some paint on them to avoid later rust. They are getting scratched as soon as you install them anyways. and you will barely be able to see them anyways.

Unless this is a show only vehicle. I wouldnt deal with the hastle of waiting and sending and recieving/possibility of loss.

You're making a really big deal out of a really minor thing. Put a little yellow touch-up paint on them if it makes you feel better. As stated, you're going to bang them up worse than that when you put them on, and they aren't going to stay all nice and pristine anyways.

Agreed, unless it is a show car and will never see the road.
