Installed 2001 Sable 3.0 into 2.5l in 1995 Contour GL auto OBD1 (port matched, i.e. UIM, LIM from 2.5).
The knock sensor from 2.5 does not fit on 3.0.
Currently, old sensor is plugged into 2.5 connector and laying on top of engine. Get code 225 (R) Knock sensor not tested (ignore if not pinging) – KS when running KOEF and KOEO tests.

Should I

- ignore, and tape sensor somewhere in engine room with 2.5 connector?
- get 3.0 sensor and steal a connector from JY for 3.0l and wire connector? Where does the knock sensor mount on the 2001?
- mount 2.5 sensor somewhere on 3.0 block (where)? I would hate to drill, tap on the block.

Use the 3L sensor and wire harness connector and splice the wire into your OEM harness like I showed you in your other threads.

EDIT: I agree with Zorrex - keep all your questions in one thread!

DUDE chill with all the threads. You only need one thread. Not everyone can run around between all the forums reading your ••••. Chill.

Will get the 3.0 sensor and splice.
Sorry with the multi-threading. I normally prefer individual threads for each problem (when searching for answers to a specific problem, I personally don't like to read through 10 other issues in the same thread).
No excuse for double posting the same issue twice though (sorry).

different threads for different issues are fine. however every thread you have is about the 3l you just installed. keeping it all in one thread will help us help you.

Found a sensor and connector, but missing the bolt (the 95 sensor was a screw in type, this one has the hole in the center for a mounting screw, much smaller thread).
Position: does it go in the spot, which is on the backside of the engine, high on the block, under the heads. left/under the big plug?

knock sensor goes on the firewall side of the block, about half way up, and about 2-3 inches from the trans end. there should be a hole threaded hole there. it should be tapped for an M8x1.25 bolt, IIRC the length is about 30mm.

I cut the old (1995 Contour 2.5l) connector out, and are about to solder the new (2001 Sable 3.0l) connector in. Wires are different colors. Does it matter which one connects where?

I found a bolt that fits; hope that standard steel is fine (and not stainless steel/non magnetic required).

I posted a picture for you in your other thread about what color wires connect where.......

Not entirely clear which old wire to new wire:

Old: White/Black Stripe, Black/Yellow Stripe
New: Yellow, Yellow Red Stripe

"I just got a PM from aircougar1 and he said it would probably be ok this way^^^ but he said he always tries to match up the striped yellow wires and so far so good on his swaps. He suggested I switch them and I will re-solder mine to be the way he suggested."

Is aircougar1 suggesting to connect:
Black/Yellow Stripe to Yellow/Red Stripe?

"I used the 3L knock sensor and just added the 3L harness connector to my stock '95 harness. No codes (not that it would throw one anyway), and no issues. I soldered and heat shrunk the wiring. "

yeah, but: "Is aircougar1 suggesting to connect:
Black/Yellow Stripe to Yellow/Red Stripe?" You have it the other way around I think, and said "I will re-solder mine.."
Doesn't seem to matter, but while I am at it, may as well do it whichever way is considered 'right'.

Soldered 2001 connector in, yellow striped to yellow striped. Installed the doughnut style 2001 sensor with bold in same location to 2001 block. KOER test run, no knock sensor code anymore.

Polarity might not matter. Anyone familiar with how the knock sensor works?
I read it works like a microphone; sensitized to the resonance frequency of the block. Then filtered (normal operation generates below threshold voltage; knock vibrations generate signal level above threshold, set error message).

They are generally a Piezoelectric or piezoresistive type sensors, the vibrations from knock are what cause the strain.
