Intermittent stall

I am still having an intermittent stalling issue. This is a 2000 Contour with the 2.0L VCT engine and a ATX. Has 180K on it. Runs awesome and gets an average of 29 MPG. It stalls every once in a while. Does not seem to be affected by how much fuel is in the tank, temperature, weather (rain or shine), or speed. It will stall when siting in the driveway at an idle, but seems to do it more when I am turning left at a deceleration or slowing down for a stop sign. It also has a surge when accelerating from 45 to 65mph. Also I just picked up a 2004 Taurus 3.0L SOHC any good tech forums out there for these?? Thanks in advance!

Any ideas on this?? I am stumped, thought it may be a sticking TCC solenoid, but that wouldn't make sense since it will stall in park idling in the driveway. I am totally stumped on this. Thanks for any help.

not throwing a CEL at all? I am led to believe you have a sticking idle air controler valve, I just had this issue in my SVT, the car would either idle too high, or would just stall out when coming to a stop.

also will point out that if you are having a sticking TCC you would throw a code for it.

Pull off the IAC valve and clean it with carb cleaner to see if that makes a change.

No CEL at all, no pending codes either. The IAC has about 10k on it, the old one that I replaced looked fine but I was having other issues at the time, ended up being a vacuum leak. I will remove and clean just to see if it makes a difference. I have never replaced the PCV valve since it is so hard to get to, looks like you have the remove the thermostat housing just to remove the metal PCV valve line in order to remove the PCV valve itself. Any suggestions on removal of the PCV valve??

2000 Mystique 2.0

My 2000 Mystique with the 2.0 just started doing the same thing about 3 weeks ago. I am still trying to figure out what is going on as it does NOT leave a trouble code. The problem you described is exactly what I experienced the first time, I was turning left and just after accellerating up to 40mph, it just died. I pulled over to the shoulder and shut the key off, tried the starter and it started right up and I drove it home. A week later the stuttering or shuddering started. It only does it at an idle like when I am pulling into the garage. Very annoying and I won't trust it out on the road. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter but it still stutters occasionally. I checked the wiring to the fuel pump to ensure I had the connector on and clipped, everything is as it should be. I will monitor this thread with great interest.

now that I think about it too, I had an issue similar to this, turned out to be something that on the VAC system that had gotten unplugged.

See if you can find someone to read the computer on a data logger. If you can get it to run crappy, checking O2 switching right then may show you the problem without a code of any sort. My Focus will show a lean limit condition (vacuum leak), and never register a code for like forever. Eventually it will register after about a week as pending. Never threw a CEL at all, even when totally serious solid misfire at idle.

UPDATE!!
I replaced the vacuum line to the bottom of the intake with a genuine Ford part about 3 months ago as it had a leak at the 90 degree bend. I found the new line to be collapsed and leaking again. I suspected oil contamination but it turned out pristine inside. So I cut it up and determined it was just a POS hose. I replaced the hose with a piece of stainless steel tubing, bent at the proper angles with just a short piece of tubing to attach each end. Problem solved!! Runs smoother and stronger than before. My thinking is that during decleration, engine develops maximum vacuum, collapsing the crappy vacuum line. Anyone with other thoughts?
