installing flywheel/crank

So this weekend I need to install a flywheel and swap out the crank on my motor.

The engine is out of the car and all the accessories are off.

I was quite pleased with myself managing to get the old torq converter off the car. I definitely struggled with the fact the engine turns while trying to crank on things.

So my question is simple: (without airtools) what is the best way to install the new flywheel/crank without having to deal with the crank spinning on me?

(and if anyone knows the torq ft/#s for the flywheel bolts and the crank pully??)

Note:
Crankshaft pulley bolt is torqued to yield and must not be reused.
Install the crankshaft pulley bolt.

Install a suitable strap wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley.

Install the crankshaft pulley bolt in four stages:
Stage 1: 120 Nm. (89 ft-lbs)
Stage 2: Back off the bolt one full turn.
Stage 3: 50 Nm (35-39 ft-lbs)
Stage 4: rotate an additional 90 degrees.

I have 54-64 ft-lbs for the flywheel/ drive plate bolts. this is an auto trans right? im not sure if the flywheel bolts are the same Tq for auto and manual, but it looks like they are.

my ford CD says to use a suitable strap wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley in place to stop crankshaft rotation while loosening or tightening the flywheel bolts. which makes sense to me.

correct, this is part of a mtx swap. I managed to get the stock atx "flywheel" off but I cannot use the same getto process for the reassembly. and like I said, I'm looking for a proper method of doing this without the use of air tools.

ive done it 2 ways, first is with a second set of hands to hold it, the other is the wedge a prybar into the teeth of the flywheel so it wont turn

the second works very well. you can wedge a prybar or large screwdriver into the teeth on the flywheel and then use the transmission alignment dowel as a point of leverage to keep the crank from turning.

not quite 'proper' ... but if you have the sump pan off, you could wedge a lump of 4x2 in the crank. Manual eh ? oooh welcome to the fast lane lol... G.

Are the bolts the same for the auto or manual flywheel? I'm going from MTX to AUTO. Engine is from a parts car.... Also if different, what are the specs on the auto flywheel bolt? I.E. Length... Thanks

The flexplate bolts on the 3L I got were the same as the flywheel bolts as my 2.5L
I used the crank pulley bolt to hold the crank and torque flywheel bolts.
