ignition coil knocking?

The only thing it could be is spark jump which will make a "crack-crack-crack" sound. Imagine the sound of a whip when it snaps.

If it is not the sound of a whip when it snaps then it has to be something expensive inside the engine.

I've seen spark plugs come loose MANY, MANY times. It makes a knocking sound. And there just so happens to be on directly under the coil pack...

Unfortunately, you guys are right. Dumb polack me. It was a loose spark plug that finally came out as I was driving today. It took 2 weeks before it popped up. I can't put it back in , though. I think it damaged the thread. Is there any way to fix this ? a Cut and die tool? new engine :)?

I just put a sparkplug thread repair kit in a VW at work and it seemed to work ok I think we got it from NAPA

Sav-A-Thread or something similar... etc being CAREFUL because the shavings lost in to the cylinder aren't going to be retrievable.

Oh ya use a sucking device after installing tool and before starting , ,,err clean out the cylinder , er read the instructions

oh yeah. i made it out to SZ 08 and put down 205 WHP N/A untuned with that 3L i put in it, but i blew that up last summer so i put a full 04' 3L in it and redid the transmission too. lol. where you been?!!

Most of the cars I've worked on in the past had spark plugs with little lock washers around the base. The plugs for the Duratec don't have those, and I think they should. This is FAR from a rare occurrence.

try this

try this

If your threads are not completely stripped (it only takes a few threads to hold the plug in), get a spark plug tap, make certain that the valves are closed on that cylinder (don't want to cut up or bend the valves), grease up the tap and carefully chase the threads. Then back it out and use an air nozzle with a piece of tubing that goes in through the spark plug hole and blow out any bothersome chips.

I did this hundreds of times in my years as a mechanic and never once did I have a problem. Of course you luck might not be the same.

Best of luck
