Replaced my IAC valve with a new one, but I'm still having the randomness of the revs hanging in to the air or climbing when I'm trying to shift. At a stop most of the time it will idle at 750 but once again idle at 1250. Some times it does this some times it acts correctly, and ideas?

SVT2000 71,000.

Did you replace with a Ford OEM? And for the same year? And did you replace the gasket too?

If answer to any of above is no, that could be the problem.

My 98 svt does the same when I shift the revs will hang or even rise a few hundred rpms and also has a slow return to idle. I replaced my iac w/ oem and made no difference.

I just had this problem and the cause turned out to be the pcv valve. You can test by just disconnecting it and blocking the vacuum line to see if it fixes it.

I guess I'll try it, my car has a lot of miles and probably was never changed.

I did clean mine, but now that it was mentioned it I believe the car was idling fine before I cleaned it, I just wanted to clean it with some brake cleaner, even though it was replaced 25k miles ago. let me know what happens.

Its 3 bucks for a new one, just replace it.

thanks for the update, I will leave mine alone with 13k miles then.. I dont have a clue to as what it could be, post back if you find anything as I didnt get anywhere.

Well, you know, you could administer the throttle hang fix if you haven't already. Even new IAC's may not fix your problem because the throttle is supposed to hang for emissions purposes. Just not as high and long as it sometimes does. That's what the TH fix is for. Look it up.

I'm beginning to suspect a TPS issue or vac leak - maybe in the accordian tube or the vent tube that runs past the water pump pulley.

Also check the condition of the vac lines & fittings on top of the UIM all the way to the brake booster & the vac distribution cluster. Booster connector should have a seal in good shape too.

My scanner shows that the "ABSLT TPS : 18". Ill have to scheck for leaks somewhere again, i wasnt so successful last time.

It should only do that right after wop throttle (dashpot effect). Mine hangs just from shifting gears normally.

I had this issue twice with my car. First time was right after I got the car, and it was due to a faulty TPS pigtail (wiggle test). Second time (a few years later) was a failing TPS.
