I guess Canada doesn't mess around.

This took place a while ago. Basically in Ontario if you are caught street racing, they take your car, and you get to watch it being destroyed. They put the cars out on a mat and everything. I've seen more extensive footage where the loader drives over the car after flatening it with the bucket, the engine doesn't survive, they are bent in half after being flattened then dumped into a dumptruck. The only reason they use the bucket is that the Bpillars can puncture the tires on the loader of not flattened out, and those tires are worth more than the cars.

The consequences were decided after a few instances of innocent bystanders being killed from street racing in the province in the beginning of the summer. In one case, a husband and wife out celebrating thier anniversary, she was pregnant. The car that hit them was going over 180kph on a 50kph street. They made a left hand turn across the open lane, but at that speed you cover a city block in a second and they were obliterated.

Personally, I think it's a good idea and wish they would do it here. I've seen a few "races" on the way to work that ended with a car hopping a curb. On top of that, there are so many grid roads and empty highways on earth, if you're going to be a retard and kill someone, make it yourself and go do it out there.

Everyone has at some point broken the speed limit, but racing at more than three times the speed limit through a neighborhood is no better than pointing a gun with 1/6 chambers loaded at someone. Sure most the time nothing will happen, but once in awhile...

It's not for tricked out cars, many people modify thier car and drive normally, those people will likely never be pulled over in the first place. These consequences take place if you are caught stunting, street racing, or exceeding the limit at a rate deemed basically retarded. Do a smoky bunch of donuts in a parking lot full of people and cars, say goobye to your car.

I agree with the punishment. If you're willing to risk your life and the safety of innocent bystanders, then you atleast deserve to get your vehicle seized and destroyed. I think it should go further and include jail time.

Thier claims are denied outright. The car is destroyed and your insurance is revoked. There is a lengthy suspension with it as well IIRC it's a 5 year suspension and you must attend driving school before you get your license back.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I was very curious.

My only issue with something like this, is that the cop that pulls you over is the one that gets to decide if you were racing or not. I've seen many people get tickets for "racing" when they were doing nothing more than normal speeding. If you happen to get pulled over by a ingnorant or obnoxious officer, you may lose your car because he was having a bad day already.

The other thing that sucks is you know that all of us that have modified cars are instant targets as well. I don't street race, its the track or nothing. I'm not saying I don't have fun on highway entrance ramps and that, because I do. But, i'm also not the one racing through town or doing stupid stuff like that.

I wish they would put up more 1/4 mile tracks, or even 1/8 mile tracks to get street racers off the streets and on the track. The closest track to me is still just shy of an hour's ride.

I'm pretty sure when I got pulled over for speeding (on the expressway) the cop saw that my car had aftermarket wheels, stereo, and I also had the defrost switches out because I was changing the LED's in it and said, here's a good one to ticket. I guess the car being cab. red and was clean that day probably didn't help though... D'oh!

A cop having a bad day will always ruin yours. And i definatly agree that having a modifed car makes you a target. I had a cop follow me and ride kiddy corner for about a mile or two just looking for something to pull me over for, finally he found what he wanted and i got a fix-it ticket for tint. So, after the cop turned around he passed me again, we were in a parking lot, he looked at me and i pulled the tint off my window and he just gave me a glare like i just killed someone, i was just removing my tint like a good obedient person. :D And when i went to prove that i had removed the tint, that night, the officer asked me to open the door, which i did, and my green led courtesy lights came on, and within a second of me opening the door he says, "you know you can't drive with those on or you'll get ticketed" I then try to explain they are simply courtesy lights and only come on when the door is opened, and of course he just blew me off like he didn't know what i was talking about. eh-holes. rant over.

Yeah don't worry, ignorant cops get fired at some point I promise you. My Uncle, former Uncle.. whatever he is to me now was a local officer who took bribes and was just like the guy Alex described above. Guess what? He messed with the wrong guy and got fired over it.

Another good reason I'm glad I don't live in Canada.

Either way, its a bit ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous? If people are getting killed by this act of recklessness, and it's something you can't contain...I see no reason why this is wrong. It's probably going to get the message across much faster than issuing a ticket. Other video's I've watched where cops issue tickets to street racers and spectators, they just laugh about getting a ticket and openly admit they'll do it again because it's worth it. If a fine doesn't hold them back, destroying their ride will.

Its ridiculous because people invest thousands and thousands of dollars into their automobiles, and crushing the cars for breaking a law seems just a tad bit unjust. I could see jail time as a punishment, but not destroying a car, that is complete bull****! And chances are, they'll build new cars and keep street racing.

I believe that as long as they give the offender a fair trial to prove whether or not they were street racing would warrant crushing. Because a cop can pull over anyone speeding and call it street racing. So if there is fair time to prove their case i believe it may be justified.

Agreed. There needs to be a definite standard for what is "street racing" and what is not. It can't be an arbitrary decision based upon a possibly irate cop's word.

harsh, but i am glad to see people doing something about it. there are too many safe legal places to show off your car or race your car to be doing it on the street. Stop breaking the law!!........it's that easy.

damn i'm getting old.

Funny coming from you Alex. *Searches for you at auto show or roma with street racing is not a crime shirt. lol

I didn't say i've never done it, it's not like it's often for me at all anyways. Except on woodward with mx, i think we turned every stop light into a christmas tree hahaha

Rawburt, you mean this one?
