HUGE CALIFORNIA street racing bust!

i hate that. cars are getting crushed for having "stolen engines". all it probably is is a friggin GSR motor in a civic and its considered stolen. yes, street racing is wrong. but they shouldnt destroy the persons car. just make them pay a hefty fine.

Already stated its in CA.

Its happening everywhere in CA. I dont see why they dont go to the tracks out there. There is plenty. Besides they are all racing Hondas.

Thats ridiculous... arresting specators? If you were walking past and saw a race you would undoubtedly stop and look..... and then get arresting apparently.

California sucks.

didnt something like that happen to bagged? i think i remember him saying he was slapped with a fine for spectating

heh .. I wonder, if they ever ran the VIN plates on a few CEGers, would they consider the Taurus/Escape engines stolen? (Or do they actually look up the VIN in their database?)

The real funny part is that this location is nothing new. I was a part of the same type of sting when I worked for Fontana P.D. back in 96. The task force does this sweep about twice a year. The only reason it was news worthy, was due to the recent deaths involving street racing lately in L.A. area.

I think once a car is totaled or turns into a junkyard car it doesn't matter

I think if they looked it up and saw the engine came from a Ford Taurus...they'd laugh at you and send you on your way.

How many drunk drivers could they have caught with that many cops?

They did it for the publicity.... DUI'ers kill thousands a year. Street racers kill a small fraction of that (1/100th?).

I edited my original post from Ontario=California not Canada. So I changed it to already stated its in CA (California)

Didnt want to beat a dead horse.:blackeye:

I feel like we hear about busts there ALL THE TIME, which is why I really don't have any sympathy in this case. They're taking part in a huge spectacle - one that happens in a place with multiple tracks within driving range.

Though, I would hope that the police provide due process in terms of allowing people with engine swaps to show documentation (ie. a receipt for a purchased, and thus not stolen, engine).

Now, if it had been a story of an individual getting pulled over, charged with racing (based solely on their car's appearance or the presence of mods), and having their car destroyed, I would be singing a very different tune.

I think if they looked it up and saw the engine came from a Ford Taurus...they'd laugh at you and send you on your way.

No, it'd be more like "A Taurus engine in a Contour? Oh, sorry gramps, we'll let you get back to the home. Watch out for these hooligans and their tomfoolery!"
