how to get non svt prodution number?

sure its nice to know things about your vehicle. but a "build number" for a non-limited edition or special run vehicle ... not so much. like blu_fuz, if there was such a thing many of us would already know about it and you wouldn't be asking per say.

epicpwn, just a tip, the number in your vin really doesnt mean anything. I'd guess that the total number of contours produced in each year are probably under 300,000. 620,835 isnt going to mean anything. Honestly.... unless you had a really low build number or did have a limited production vehicle, I wouldnt go putting a build number on your car. It's one thing to say your car is one of 2,150, but it isnt even worth mentioning that your car is 1 of 283,964 Even if you narrow it down by the options it was produced with, you arent going to see anything as limited production as SVTs. Not trying to get down on you or anything, I'm just saying.

Don't bother Ford with this petty stuff, you have to be kidding - right?

It goes to Ford customer relations. They don't mind this kind of stuff. It is like when groups ask for factory tours.

Ford loves it when people have a healthy interest in their vehicles.

They still wont be able to provide build numbers or anything else, just total production numbers for Ford contours. Like I said before, they dont keep record of the options, motors or transmissions they are equipped with, but we can interpolate those from other sources.

This is how I compiled the build totals for ford escorts.

of course, some other companies like GM do keep track of options as well.

The chevy silverado's vin can be entered in on a website out there and it will tell you how many other trucks were ordered exactly like yours. Mine is like 1 of 25 or so. They don't have that for the contour though.

thoughs number at the end of your vin are your car id lets say so thoughs number keep track of the history of your car, whats happend to it. so it pretty much is a build number for non svts and if it was a low number i would but its not so im not

i am not saying thats the actual build number i was saying the thoughs last 6 numbers are the cars id if you looked at the link above. thoughs are the closes to any build number you going to get on a non svt even if it was 620,835 of all the contours made

Can I just say that, dude, your car is NOT special. It doesn't matter if it rolled off the line at 620,835th in line, 3pm in the afternoon, or when the dude installing the trunk liner was off taking a •••• and had his supervisor covering for him. You own just another ••••ty-ass Contour.

wtf man?

I'm a professional asshole and I wouldn't even give that attitude to a random person for a question.

yea but he has a point, cus this guy isn't getting it. as far as i know....non svt contours and mystiques have no build numbers. only svt contours do. same thing with the cobra, lightning and focus. hes right, theres nothing Special about a non svt contour. there a ton of them out there...i think this is a case of wishful thinking. YOU DON'T HAVE A BUILD NUMBER. the last 6-8 digits of your VIN mean nothing as far as build numbers go. i don't mean to be offensive at all. sorry man.

exactly, the last 6 of the VIN are not in any kind of order from Ford. a perfect example of this is in the SVT registry. all of the 98 SVTs are in the 30xxxx or lower with the last one listed with a built date being 6/16/98 (which is fairly late in the year for a 98 to be produced). obviously they produced way more than 4K or 5K 98 Contours in the almost 2 years that the 98 SVTs were being produced.

obviously many of you know, and its needless to say, that there were only 11,445 svt contours ever built, and they all have build numbers from the factory. if you have a contour se and call 1800 ford svt and ask for the build number...they will most likely laugh....its like asking the build number of your regular neon, when only the srt-4's have build numbers. its as easy as that.

NO. YOU ARE NOT GETTING IT. READ MY DANG POST.

THERE WERE NOT 620,835 CONTOURS MADE. There were around 300,000 contours made or less for north america each year I believe. Fewer Mystiques. Even the total production of Contours and Mystiques probably doesnt come near 600,000. I am basing those numbers on production of Ford Escorts/Mercury tracers, which I know were higher than the Contique. Those production numbers in your VIN are not sequential. They are for all intents and purposes random numbers. That number means as much to your contour as stick deodorant to a FOB from India. Sure, it is a nice concept and a way to identify him in the crowd, but he will never use it.

The number in your vin that that site calls a production number means NOTHING. It is just a tracking number.

Trust me. You have not stumbled across one of the great secrets in life. Anyone with a haynes or chiltons manual can decode the VIN on the contour. Somewhere on this site or the archives we have VIN decoders posted. If you were on to anything, we would have all known it LONG ago.

I can't believe this thread has gotten this far! Almost an epic thread because he just doesn't get it :nonono:. Now I just feel sorry for him.

you should read his post on FCO about putting a GM 3800 engine into a contour .... and being in the 9's
