how to adjust idle on 96 contour gl 2.0L

You can't, the speed is built into computer software. PCM will always try to attain that speed.

Something may be wrong with car to make speed drop artificially.

if the car is in drive or reverse and you come to a stop the car shakes mildly because the idle is too low (like the car is about to die, but not quite that bad). I see there is an adjustment screw for the throttle cable, i was thinking that would work to bring the idle up slightly. but I'm thinking there is a vacuum leak somewhere that I need to fiv. I checked all the hoses up top, and they are good. I'm thinking pcv valve. where are these cars prone to have vacuum leaks? where is the IAC (idle air control) that may be clogged. I couldn't find it up by the throttle body. thanks

have you changed the fuel filter or looked in the plug wells for oil? the IAC is on the bottom of the intake manifold.

Yes when we bought the car 2 months ago, I changed the fuel filter, and the plugs, and there was no oil. I have not changed the pcv valve, and I suspect its the original pcv.

You can adjust the throttle body, but all you are doing is screwing things up. The IAC and PCM are relying on that setting being in a certain place, move it and IAC control can get screwy.

CLEAN the throttle blade and bore, sometimes that helps, just did it on a Focus, it did get slightly better. Carbon buildup around the aircrack restricts the slight airleak there.
