i have a 99 and have traction control. didnt have the button for it and it was an option. finally found a button for it. i like it and i think it has saved my trans from death.

wondering how many people with post 98 or any contour have traction control and what you think about it

I like the version on the pre98s as it is a mechanical system. from my understanding the post 98 version still uses the brakes to help control wheel spin but it also cust timing to remove engine power and most people don't like it. as for the pre98 mechanical system it used a motor to push against the gas pedal and uses the brakes to control wheel spin. So I know when its going to kick in and if I want I just keep my foot in it and the car goes, snow tires help.

as for how rare, pretty rare ... I know of 3 people on the boards here that have it, skunk, mapoftazi and the CTA SVT, but I am sure there are a few more ...

so you say you didn't have the switch but just added on and it worked or you found that is was an option on the car but was missing the switch so you added it? that point wasn't to clear from your post ...

How do you know if you have it. My 2.5l auto can't turn the wheels over. It doesn't really do much from the take off. After I'm going about 10-15 mph it kicks in. Kind of seems like I have it but I would like to disable it if I do. How do I know?

if your car has it you should have a second button next to the rear defroster switch ...

yeah when i bought the car. i was wondering why the traction control light was lighting up in the dash. i had a blank next to the defroster but when you take it out the blank had a wiring harness connected to it. so i found the switch last weekend and put it in. when u push it the light lights up and the traction control is disabled.

to know if you have it or not look on the driver side of the engine bay should be a module that says tcs. also when starting a turn from a dead stop and punching it. it should sound like the engine is flooding

Sounds like somebody forgot to put the switch in at the factory. :blackeye:

Funny because my 2000 SVT has plug behind the blank cover that doesn't connect to anything.

First thing I thought was a TC switch but figured the wiring didn't actually lead to anything. I may actually try to install it now.

you can try it if you like, and if you come up with a switch i want to try it also .... but from what I understand the abs units are different if the car has TC compared to when it doesn't. also my 99 has the second harness next to the defroster switch too.

This sounds like something that we need to solve. This could be a great find. I hope it works. Why else would they leave the harness in there. Then I'm thinking if the harness is there why not actually hook it up.

because its sometimes cheaper to not change something, like the whole in the firewall for the speedometer cable is pressent in all years made. Also the mystqiue rear dome like openning is in all year and models also ... like I just read in another post recently a guy with his 96 iirc was installing factory fog lights and the connectors for the lights where there but the rest of the wiring wasn't.

another example, my zetec doesn't have a low coolant light but the pigtail is there. I resently put a overflow tank in with a sensor/float so the sensor should work and there is a bulb in the low coolant lighti in the dash but it doesn't light up ...

yes there is a TC button, its one peice with the rear defroster button ...

Yeah I know that.. I meant to ask if any connector will work to plug into the harness if it is there. Don't mind me I know very little about electrical stuff. On mine the spot where the TC would be is just a blank.

yeah if u take out what u have now and there are two harnesses pluged into the back. 1 for defroster and 1 for tc then you can swap the tcs and defroster switches in and they should work

I thought I had Traction Control.....I have the button on my car but when I press it no light comes on....

Might need help on that one??? How can I find out if the TC is working properly or test it???

i dont' know if putting a switch will make it work...but i do know that the TC is controlled by the ECU in the 98+ cars. dunno if you remember dave andrews, but somehow it got enabled on his car and he was going crazy trying to figure out wtf was wrong with his car and it turned out it was pulling spark and such because of the damn traction control. i dunno if he ever got it resolved...he sold the car shortly after.
