Hood won't close

Anyone else have the problem of the hood security latch not locking? the hand latch is fine but i'm afraid of a strong wind slamming the hood on the windshield which it has done once before as it wasn't shut firmly and the hand latch spring was broken. funny how it bent the hood all out of shape but left my new windshield unscratched

TL;DR how to make a hood security latch functional when the cable seems slightly slack and hood alignment in general.

Readjust the entire latch assembly up a bit higher, that usually does it. Just did same on a Focus..........
