The past few times I have tried opening my hood release, it doesn't want to open.

So I lift up on the hood, push it down again etc, then try the hood release again. After a few times of doing this, I can pry the hood open. Is my release cable on its way out or streching? Hood latch sticking?

Perhaps the hood latch is fighting the hood alignment bumpers. These are two rubber-tipped screws that are on either side of the radiator. If they are set too high, it will make the hood latch bind up. Might be something else, but at least fooling with those is free.

Does the hood "pop" when you pull the release? Or are you just having trouble pulling on the safety release and actually pulling the hood open?

I'm having trouble understanding him too.

What I don't understand is if the hood is popping and you can pull up on it, then at that point you should be able to release the safety latch. Why does the hood need to be shut again to get it open?

Hood does not want to pop up. After pulling the hood release from in side the car, I have to go to the front and physically get my fingers under the hood and see if it pull it up to be able to get to the safty release.

Yeah your cable is probably working its way loose. I'm too lazy to search, but if you do a bit of searching you can find out what your problem is. IIRC most people have had a problem with the cable disconnecting from the release inside the car, but I can't be totally sure....

EDIT: Ok so I lied. I searched and came up with this:

Might want to try pulling off the release handle to see what's going on.
