I'm 99% sure it's an HLA problem. Only audible at idle. No driveability issues. Beyond 1K RPMS you can't hear it.

Any quick fixes? They apparently lose they're oil holding capacity due to dirt and varnish apparently (from what I've read)

Not a huge problem, right?

High Luster Addiction...nice manifold!

Maybe...
Huge List of Acronyms?
Humming Lugging Audibles?
Humping Leg Actuator?
High-Low Aperture?
Happy-go-Lucky Additive?
Helicopter Landing Area?
Hippopotamus Lunching Arena?
Hydromatic Launch Assist?

All I can tell from the video is that you have some kind of tapping noise and like to play with your throttle plate. Assuming some type of issue with the Valve train.

I know it's weird but it seems to be intermittent. Oil and varnish plug them up apparently, so I'll probably get the oil system flushed soon. People have had much sucess by doing that from what I've searched. I just wanted to confirm it. I'm pretty sure but from me to put my info out there could help someone else. No driveability issues and it's not really doing any damage. There's play in between the valve and the rocker arm due to this, IIRC. Lack of oil to the HLA lets it kind of 'collapse' making a noise. And it only does it at a hot idle when oil pressure is the lowest.

Just curious now, What year cougar? Manual/auto? Mileage? What type of oil do you run? How many miles between oil changes?

sounds silly, but put 1 quart of atf in the oil and be mean to it...it is a detergent and over time will fix this, or you can hold 5-6000 rpms and wait for the snap and then sudden quietness :)

Scuba

(I do this to saturns alot! and my coug every other oil change the week prior to ensure no sludge buildup)
