I don't have a lot of experience with suspensions.

but

With my new H&R's and stock struts in excellent condition
the ride seems just fine.

that way i can take the 600ish dollars i saved NOT buying Koni's and
buy wheels or something to fill in the gap i could have avoided with KSport coilovers or ground controls.

lol

Your struts won't last as long as Koni's would...Well, assuming the Koni's don't succumb to a possible premature failure anyways.

Your going to have to buy new struts sooner or later. Sooner if you don't like a bouncy car. I think you'll be best off if you get the proper struts while you have the money now. That way you won't have a car with shiny new wheels that bounces a lot and you no longer have the money to remedy it.

Even if the Konis did fail, they have a lifetime warranty as long as you keep your receipt...or borrow one and come up with a good story.

What are "the proper struts"? I read good and bad about KYB Gr2, Monroe SensaTrac and so forth. Mine is just a GL daily driver so I don't need "performance" anything, and those two listed are all that's available at the parts shops in town here, so it's either them or mail-order. Also, what about replacement (stock ride height) springs? Is any brand better than the others, or any brand to stay away from?

I hope you weren't referring to my question. Please tell me I needed to make that statement simpler?
If all your looking for is stock replacement then any brand you will find at your local parts store will be fine. if you want to increase the handling then you will want a performance strut such as the Konis or BATs.

honestly, even though my old 97 was "just a GL" it was so much more fun to drive with the Konis/GCs then with stock suspension. If you like to use it for more than just a cheap, basic daily driver then go with a performance upgrade. if you do only use it for a daily driver and have something else to have fun with, then stock (or stock replacement) is fine.

I'm running H&R's with newer svt struts, but came into it knowing I'll have to replace the struts sooner than normal. I figure I'll replace them with Koni or BAT struts when I need to:shrug:

I have eibach's on SE struts, but the struts only have 12k on them. I'll replace them when necessary.

As others have already said, your :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: is going to break sooner than later. It is fine for now, but soon you will really wish that you threw the springs on to some upgraded aftermarket struts...

My struts all started to blow out after less than 10k miles after I installed B&G springs. Plan on buying struts in the near future.

I was able to get 180,545km (112,840miles) on my stock struts with Eibachs before they finally blew and I drove that car like it was stolen .

chit....it was stolen...from me.....i knew it was you. Finally you had to brag about it.

DOc i have h&r's on my svt with stock struts....17k so far....it the drops looks great...and it rides perfect. I did though buy new svt struts when i put my springs in. I hear it helps the longevity of the strut if it's used right away with a drop...adding them later will only make them blew quicker.

Well, if I had bought the struts I would have upgraded. Previous owner bought them and had installed right before I bought the car. I wasn't going to pull new OEM SVT struts off and let them sit in the garage forever. Might as well use them and upgrade when I need to.

Who gives a crap. Konis are not worth the $ for the crappy warranty they offer and if you put GCs on them your warranty is void anyway.
The H&Rs do not force the struts to go too far + or - to damage them overnight. You will probably see the struts fail sooner with the H&Rs than with just stock springs but you will get a hell of a lot of life out of them.

So lets say your stock struts are toast at 100,000 miles on stock springs. So you get new OEM struts and H&Rs and they last 50-80,000 miles that is probably how long the konis will last anyway in a DD that sees all types of weather. If the konis don't fail by then you will want to get new ones anyway because of all the damn rust caused by poor prep work in the painting process at koni.

Use your stock struts till they are fubar'd and get some OEM replacements again or go one step better and get the BATs.

exactly...

does anyone object to myself ordering H&R Springs, with Sensatrac struts?
The BAT kit is just too expensive to send to Nova Scotia. Free trade can suck my ass, right after UPS does for brokerage fees.
