Would it be safe to use the fuel pump to drain the fuel tank? I plan on hooking line to the outlet of the fuel filter and powering the pump and pumping the fluid into a gas can.

its been discussed before. not sure there would be an issue but i don't think that i would do that. Should be able to draw off the gas with a syphen (sp?)

either way take the standard safety precautions when handling gas.

Just don't try to siphon the gas using your mouth to get it pumping. :blackeye:

I took a mouthful of gas that left a smell and taste lingering for two days.

It takes forever using the pump, but it is possible.

Edit: If you jumper the pump to get it to stay on like fuz suggested it shouldn't take too long :)

Can i just jumper the relay to get the fuel pump to turn on? and if so what 2 pins to connect?

I drain the tanks on lots of cars using their own fuel pump before I strip them or send them to the salvage yard. A contour though.... Just pull the back seat out, pull out the pump and siphon it out with a big hose. Much faster, less technical.
