Could a faulty crank position sensor short of the PCM/ECU?

why do you think this is the case? what is the car doing that makes you believe this?

if the pcm is bad the cel will not turn on on start up, pending the light bulb is good. if its a late model contour with pats it wouldn't function either.

basically we need more info to help out...

Originally when the car was misfiring, we noticed the coil wasn't firing on the 2 and 3. (we checked all the spark plugs & cables) (it's a 1999 Ford Contour with a 4 cylinder). We replaced the coil because it was bad. After replacing the coil, the car started up and, began to to do the same thing. At this time we thought it was the PCM. We had an old PCM from a 1998 Contour, we placed it in to check it out and all four cylinders fired, but that model of PCM doesn't run the fuel pump for the 1998. We searched and found a PCM. We thought everything was good to go. Shortly after this, the same problems begain to happen. We replaced the fuel injectors on the 2 misfiring cylinders. Still, no power. We thought we had received a bad coil, replaced that again, same issue. Now we are about to go crazy.

We thought it could be related to the fuel pump. The fuel pump was tested and tested good. We then go and check every sensor in the darn car. We finally got to the Crank Position Sensor and it looked like there was a mark on the sensor and we actually found a bad bearing by the fly wheel. We replaced the bearing, replaced the crank position sensor, and ala, the problem still is happening. I was wondering if the faulty Crank Position Sensor could have shorted out the PCM again?

If the crank sensor were faulty or was causing a problem, you would have NO SPARK AT ALL, not just two cylinders.

Sounds more like an open circuit between the coil and the PCM.

Are you getting any fault codes (did you even check for any)?
