My contour is supposedly a "sport" model, but I can't find anything that differentiates it from a GL, LX, etc. I'm really curious to find out exactly what I have on the car so I can figure out what to buy in the future.

You read me wrong brapple. My car is not an SE, it is a "Contour Sport" as said on the trunk.

He didn't say it was an SE. Just posting links to some info.

First of, what motor does your car have? 4 cyl will automatically eliminate SE.

They did make a GL Sport starting in 1996 and ending in 1998.

you have a GL sport based on the zetec listed in your signature, pretty much meaningless ....

btw my contour is a sport also .... not sure what is intailed on the GL sport but otherwise its just appearence items ...

My sig says its a zetec automatic...and the information BrApple posted makes no mention of the sport model, but he prolly figured I'm the average noobie on here and didn't read the guides (I don't blame him)

My car is a GL Sport then.

Do you know if there was any special options etc pertaining to the sport?

not at all, you asked about where you where with your car, the links give you alot of that information. plus I though the first link did mention the sport somewhere.

in terms of the 97-98 GL "sport" I don't think it means anything at all. I don't recall them having side skirts, or tachs, or leather wrapped steering wheels, fog lamps, etc that the later "sport" or the pre98 SE gets one ..

A GL Sport adds:

15" alloy wheels
Leather wrapped steering wheel
Leather wrapped shift knob
"Sport" badging on trunk
"Sport" embroidered floor mats
Tachometer

If you have a GL Sport V6, then you have everything above plus:

V6 Engine
Sport tuned suspension
Rear disc (if MTX)

Vehicles intended for rental car fleets frequently had SE badging but were missing quite a few SE package features. I inspected many at Hertz Used Car sales before buying my own '98 SE (in name only) from a Hertz location.

Edit: I guess we're talking about pre-98 cars in this instance, so I don't think this applies.

Yes, I was referring to Pre-98. All Pre-98 SE's were V6.

well now I know why my 2000 had 165,000 miles, was a fleet car at one point...Already guessed that due to the trunk hole and wire running to the trunk under it that looked like for a CB antenna or something

Well I didn't get mats with my car, but other than that it sounds like it. Thanks for the information.
