Well it seems like everything's connected fine but when I turn the key to the on position, the little red light in the middle of the dash keeps blinking. I'm thinking the security system is not letting me start the car for some reason :help:

Anyone bypass their security system?

Anyone bypass their security system?

Well it seems like my security system is shot but it died AFTER engaging the immobilizer for some reason (I'm thinking this because turning the key has no effect, hooking up the starter straight to the battery is spinning it but the solenoid isn't doing anything). I'm sort of dumbfounded at what happened but basically now the little red light won't come on at all and I can't start the car.

I'm thinking I need to somehow restart the security system to disengage the immobilizer and then wire past it.

Has anyone bypassed their system without installing a remote starter or something?

if you have to have PATS reprogrammed the dealership can do it for you, and they dont charge that much.

But if the pats light wont come on at all, then you could have a fryed PCM... turning the key does absolutely nothing? or do you get any power at all? can you run the radio and stuff?

I get everything - lights, radio, power accessories. Just nothing happens when I try to start the car.

Is the PATS light on the dash lit up?

And just to be sure, you aren't talking about some aftermarket security system are you?

The little red light? No it's not on at all. No blinking, nothing.

And I'm talking about whatever came with the car. I'm pretty sure the previous owners didn't install anything.

first off, you should know better than to cross post things. the threads are now merged.

Second, if the light is off, that means the PATS system hasn't intentionally disabled the car. If PATS was functioning and telling the car not to start the light would either stay lit, or would flash quickly (can't remember which one the contour does, never had a PATS issue with one).

Check your fuses, especially for the PATS circuit, and also check your clutch switch is functioning correctly.

Though, it might be none of these depending on what you had been doing to your car in the time between when it quit and the last successful start . . .

Well it was flashing quickly before when the car wouldn't start but at some point it stopped flashing at all

I tried to start the car, wouldn't start, went to check some of hte connections in the engine bay nothing looked wrong. So i started the car and it started but my MAF was disconnected so i turned it off to go reconnect everything. From that point on, it wouldn't start.

well if there's something wrong with that (which i've never heard of going wrong in any car), why isn't the solenoid engaging when i hook it up straight to the battery?

First, I have heard of it occuring. I'm not going to name any names, but at least one person that has posted in this thread was involved.

Second, no offense, but I have doubts about your ability to jump a starter properly, so it wouldn't surprise me if you missed something there as well.

Before you post again, I want you to go check your fuses, and your clutch switch, then let us know.

Fuse was fine. How do i check the clutch switch?

And How hard is it connecting positive terminal to positive terminal?
