Broken hood latch cable

So here's the scoop. My hood latch cable broke the other day and in an effort to pull the cable with pliers, I ended up pulling the cable right out of the car (long story involving swearing and throwing of Robogrips). So now I am considering removing the hood latch (the one that actually secures the lid, not the catch that has the handle attached under the hood) and putting on some hood pins. I am wondering a few things though.

1. Are these legal for street use? I live in Michigan btw.
2. Has anyone made a walkthrough on installation? (yes I searched) or is it so easy I don't need one?
3. Finally, will these be safe enough for a daily driver?

Like I said, I will still have the one safety latch still attached.

Maybe some engine bay pictures from people wit the pins so I can see where to mount them?

Thanks.

Hood latch problems on our cars seldom give trouble. If you replace the cable and whatever is needed with the latch you are not likely to have the problem return.

That said, I would not install hood pins. They seldom line up properly. Adjusting them to keep the hood tight is seldom satisfactory. It's a hassle to open and close the hood. It's usually a source of rattles. But that's me. Do what you think s best.

Same thing happened to my friends stang. Right now he has a little bit of the cable running along near the headlight, so he gets out of the car and pulls it to open it. He is looking at getting it fixed before winter, how hard of a job is it to run new wire?

Did this to my wife's truck. She cut the cable to where it just hangs below radiator, and attatched a pull handle to it. She now can open the hood w/o going in the cab. BTW, the handle under the hood still works as a safety feature. She's had no issues with this so far.
