I took my Borla cat-back to have it put on and the owner asked if I had the "band clamps" that go w/ the kit. I do not have them as I bought it used and did not come w/ clamps. I went to the Borla site and it looks like these things cost $24 each and I need 2 x 2.25" and 2 x 2" so thats $100 for clamps .

Anyone running this exhaust use something else? The mechanics did not want to weld or use the standard U-clamps b/c they said these band clamps work much better. So anyone have any they would like to get rid of  or have an alternative substitute?

That's what I said but to get them lined up in the cutouts perfectly they would have to weld them on the car and they said they can't weld them when they are on the car to get the top part of the pipe. They also said since you spent all the time and $ on the headers, y, etc. these clamps are the best bet to seal it much better then trying to jerry rig it by trying to get perfectly sealed connection w/ welding. I also mentioned the U-bolts but they are adamant about using the band clamps for this setup.

Umm, Any kind of muffler clamp will work. If the shop isnt lazy they can expand the pipes to slip fit them, and then you just use a regular clamp

Worst/dumbest shop ever.

Tell them to weld the bottoms, take the exhaust off and then weld the tops..

Actually, just take it to a shop that uses their heads.

Some people are actually so dumb.

Actually the pipes are already set where they are a slip fit ( one pipe is just a fraction smaller and slides into the other pipe) and then the sleeve goes over to clamp it tight. Hell I might just do it myself and save some $.

I tend to agree that they are being lazy but they actually do good work when they DO work lol.

I think I'm just going to get some clamps from Jegs. They are only $10 each and they are SS. Better than $25 each for Borla's when they are basically identical.

Your putting too much effort into this. Go to an auto part store and pick up some clamps. Call me when its done and tell me how it sounds

I also bought a used Borla catback system. The guy who had it before me, had it all welded together by a shop because he didn't want to deal with clamps. Then he just drew lines on the pipes for lining them up and cut them in different spots for shipping. I had them TIG welded back together off the car and it fit almost perfect first try, just a little tweaking and one more hanger (missing one rubber hanger) and it would be dead on :)
