BLKOUT2: Rebirth. PRT 2011 track car build thread.

I ordered more stuff. :D

I got my gauges, still waiting to order the wide band O2 and tuning software, that can wait until after paint and I'm back int PRT. The passenger seat is also on the way along with a bunch of other things. Progress is slow until all of this comes in, so sorry for the lack of updates this week, but there hasn't been much to show. Now that most of the ordering is handled, I can focus on fab. The battery will be mounted once the hardware comes in and that's the only thing keeping the car from running right now. Also expecting t oget the rear LCA's finished and off to welding before the weekend, once that's done she sits on the ground and i can finish tacking in the cage. I need to drive the car out on the 2nd of April, so things will come together quickly. Then comes paint, wiring, and smiles shaking it down on the back roads.

Just a couple of pictures....

Prototype control arms ready for finish welding. Hoping to have these back Monday so I can do the final install of the rear suspension and get the car on the ground to finish the cage.

Josh, what is the difference between the stage 1 and the track arms? I can see the differences, but what will the track arms offer that the stage 1's dont?

Sligtly lighter weight, and the use of a dual sperical end link as opposed to the stock bushinged end links, as pictured earlier in the thread.

Update? Sure....

First off some of the work I had Joe do on the CNC plasma table. Tow hook done:

Saturday morning I had a welder friend come in and lay down the finish welds on the harness bar, hoping to have him back next weekend to finish weld the additions I made this weekend once the car is sitting on the ground. The control arms are due back tomorrow that then we can put in the completed rear suspension and set her down.

Next up was installing the new nut-certs required for the battery relocation...

Scratch that off the to-do list....

Today I spent a little quality time with the tubing notcher, welder and saws all...still more to be removed but enough for the day to provide great access for cage install.

Made a mock-up bar out of PVC, there will be two of these bars in a welded "x" in a day or two.

Looks like a cougar with the rear deck yacked out of there . Thanks for showing the good side of the tow hook . Is that Tony with the welder?

Yeah, no problem. That's actually one of our welders from work, he's done a few roll cage installs so I figured he was perfect for the job.

Don't forget to replace your trunk struts since they are right there!!

The sad thing is I replaced them the day after I had the car in the garage....should ahve waited. Haha!

Might be too early for this question, but when do you plan to have the rear control arms available to purchase, and any idea on price? And are you going to offer just the stage 1 arms or the stage 2 as well?

Too early to tell on pricing just yet. I need to get the stage 1's out for testing to someone who can install right away and give me feedback. I have also decided on a slight change to the final design for teh sake of ease of final manufacture. I may offer both stage 1 and 2, as i've heard a few people interested in the stage 2 design.

Long night at the garage tonight. Hetfeild came out and lent a hand which was greatly appreciated.

So first up: CONTROL ARMS!

Because i still need to get all the new rear suspension blasted and painted before install, Mike and I threw in the old suspension to get the car on the ground to finish cage fab. From the sounds of things the welder will be available again Friday, so hoping to have him back then to finish this up and mark it off the to do list. Once it's all welded I can get the car up again and swap out all of the suspension parts. One thing I have learned is that due to the amount of weight reduction in the car, the coilovers can no longer sink to the stance I want for the car. I will be looking into different spring rates and shorter springs soon. The front has another 1 1/2" of drop before I hit chassis, and the rear has about 4". I have the ability to lay the side skirts on the ground with a static drop. This is where all the work in the fender wells pays off.

Once again on all wheels

Last tubes for the cage in. I do have plans to expand upon this bracing in the future with a roof hoop and door bars, but for now it's all i need and IMO looks plain sick.
