Whats the best aftermarket repair manual for the Contour.

I have both for different vehicles sometimes one is better than the other.

Haynes or Chilton?

Ford Service CD for whatever year vehicle you have. not only do you get the service/repair info from Ford for the Contour but also for all other Ford cars for that year. Cost wise, you can normally get a copy from Todras (a member on here) for a couple bucks so its cheaper than a Haynes or Chilton manual as well.

If the consumer books don't have what I want the local library by me (wyoming, MI) SW of Grand Rapids has a reference section of pro Mitchell manuals for free. Check with the libraries in your area for this. Or online manuals the GR public library had even had Alldata online subscription once. Alldata has individual subscriptions also.

I usually use Haynes, but I am second guessing using them anymore.

My latest project I replaced the alternator on my Zetec 2.0. Haynes told me I had to undo the power steering lines from the right front sub frame, remove the resonator and something else to get to the Alternator.

Pffttt I removed the throttle body cover, undid a couple of wires over the alternator and removed the injector rail gas hose that also went over the alternator. Took off the bolts and pulled the alternator from the top. Easy and I had no idea what they were talking about removing the resonator and power steering line.

Are you trying to save money on the manual or are you just having difficulty finding a factory manual? I just pony'd up and bought a factory manual for my exact year off of eBay. Best investment you can make for the longevity of the vehicle.

I have to second this, I did the same and the factory books are super convenient.
