I hate ricers.....PERIOD. I do not want any kind of rasp, buzz, hum, pops, you-can-hear-them-coming-from-a-mile-away type exhaust. I was wondering if this could be accomplished by keeping the resonator? IS there such thing as a after market high flow resonators? I thought I heard you can use a mufflers in palce of the resonator. Would this be worth the money while still being only a low rumble or quiet at idle, but still sounding good when I get on it. Is this even a possible feat out of a a4cyl? I'll be using stoack headers and cat, only because I can't offord new ones.

I was looking at Borlas, I heard they are really good. I was looking at the turbo series, because I don't want a "boomer", I know the fact that they come with a tip welded on already and they are round, they are the coffe cans that are on all ricers. I know 2.25 is good for zetecs, but I thought I heard smaller gives you better low end. So basically these are the two combinations I am thinking of:

1)header-cat-2" tubing-one muffler

2)header-cat-muffler (in place of resonator)-2.25" tubing-muffler

Also, out of the three sizes that have 2.25 in/out and the two tha thave 2 in/out, which size in each would cause a lower sound? Would more or less volume cause higher or lower tone? I know its a lot of questions, but I would appreciate if anybody has answers to share with me.

Thanks, Connor

If you are looking for it to be quiet, run the second setup because single muffler setups are generally louder than what it seems you are looking for. I'm not an expert on the muffler styles, so someone else will have to hop in for that.

Take a look at my thread (one down in this forum) and read it well. We discussed a miriad of setups, and the one I decided to go with is extremely cheap, and sound great. If you need details, talk to Striker2, Zorrex, AliasJerk, BK4293, or myself.

Also, the twin tips work out perfectly if you decide to go the same route I am with your car:cool:

Best bet.....header-cat-large resonator-muffler with all 2.25" piping. Out of all the mufflers/resonators I have used over the years, Magnaflow sounded and performed the best.

leave the stock manifold BELIEVE ME! headers will bring the rasp queen.

for your car i would just get a stock svt exhaust dual, and then put a cherry bomb or thrush resonator on it! cheap easy sounds greats and looks great.

Yah, I was panning on keeping the stock manifold and cat, just because I can't offord new ones.

I like the SVT exhaust on the zetec o youtube, I forget who's car it is but its stock headers/cat, no resonator, and SVT dual exhaust with stock pipung, y-pipe, and mufflers. I love the sound of that but I'm not sure if thats the route I want to go.

Yes, that is the one I like. Isn't it stock everything, but with no resonator? How hard was it to get it installed, since you are switching from single to dual? About how much was the install price?

If you really want a high-flow, low-sound exhaust setup, get the resonator and muffler removed, and run 2 or 2.25" pipe, with two Magnaflow Pn.# 1114 mufflers In-line. It will be almost silent but it will be straight-through, almost restrictionless exhaust. This is the setup a lot of LS1 guys run if they want quiet performance. If it makes a V8 quiet, the Zetec should be, more or less, silent.
