well i havent had ac working for a while now. it just blows out warm air. i think its full of freon because it doesnt go from low rpms to high rpms like it would if it needed a recharge. it doesnt do anything at all. i searched the old forums and saw that sometimes the ac clutch wont turn but im not exactly sure where it is to check it. any ideas?

if the clutch is not coming on at all would the wheel still spin?? cause the wheel spins. i got the shim out and if my caliper is right it says its about .45mm..it doesnt seem right though cause the old forums everyone had .90s to .80s.

Yes it still spins otherwise it would throw the belt off. You're looking for it to engage, hum a little, disengage and stop humming. Its very hard to miss because it will be the only change.

well it doesnt engage at all. i tried just putting it all backtogether without the shim and it still doesnt engage. its a bad compressor or its bad wiring. how can i check the wiring before i replace the compressor?

did you actually put gauges on and check that the system was full? you said you think it is full, but have you verified this?

Compressor will quit coming on at anything below about 25 pounds. Pull the wire connector off clutch and using 2 jumper wires, jump one pin in the connector on the compressor to a good ground and the other to +12 volts. If faceplate on clutch snaps in compressor electrical is OK. After that, turn the faceplate and if it turns without grinding compressor most likely OK. You DO realize that you can purchase the clutch alone without buying the entire compressor, right?
