Just curious if anybody had tried Amsoil Syncromesh MTF in the MTX75? Possibly an alternative to the RP Syncromax MTF.

damn it, i cant seem to be able to find it. maybe someone can chime in. but i recently read that there are only 4 lubs you should use in the MTX-75. 1. Ford Honey 2. RP syncromaxx 3. Amsoil Motor Oil and o dont remember the last one.

if you really want to use Amsoil, i would use the motor oil they advise to put in.

After doing some more research on the Amsoil Synthetic Syncromesh MTF it is essentially the equivilant to RP Syncromax. Given that it is recommended for use in many of the same transmission/transaxles that RP Syncromax is recommended for and it costs about half as much as the RP I decided to give it a shot. The trans had the Ford "honey" in it and it was difficult to shift when cold.

Immediately after putting the Amsoil in I noticed easier shifting into first. After 100 miles or so going through all the gears is much more smooth even when cold. It actually feels just like the trans in my old SVT that had RP Syncromax but it didn't cost me $42 bucks in fluid.

I'm a (small-time) Amsoil dealer and I'm also curious. As a dealer, I have better access to in-house tech reps. So when I had my clutch done late last year I called and asked. No mention of either (manual) trans lube they offer, just that that's what their data shows as the best match.

I'm further confused, since they do recommend motor oil, why they wouldn't suggest any of their motorcycle oils. These are specifically formulated for both crankcase and gearbox environments due to combined cases on many cycles. I asked and again, no answers. I think I may write the head Amsoil guru in MI, who happens to be a former Ford lubrication engineer. If I get anywhere I'll be sure to post.

Finally, I used the 15W-40 diesel/marine oil in my trans. I liked it, only having mystery fluid to compare with (and only for 3k miles or so) but I only got 1500 miles on it before my diff went south. Still contemplating what's going in this time.

I have been running amsoil for a couple years now. I don't remember what type of lube it was though, whatever the book told the guy at the parts counter I needed is what I put in. It was like $9 a qt though iirc

My buddy is an amsoil nut! He drives 2 hours to buy the stuff by the 33gal drum. It goes in his diesel truck, his diesel mower, mixes with his 2 cycle. I bet he's got the best running equipment of any lawncare company around!

Well for reference I compared all the fluids that the Amsoil website states the MTF replaces GM p/n 12345349, p/n 12377916, Chrysler p/n4874464, p/n 4874465 and compared that to the Royal Purple website which recommends Syncromax for those same part numbers. Given the crossover I felt pretty comfortable putting the Amsoil MTF in my trans.

Only time will tell but from the initial feeling I believe the Amsoil will provide the same long life that the Royal Purple has and at a fraction of the cost.

I would agree on the thought process and can't imagine any harm, but I still want to get to the bottom of the mystery. It's just too dang weird. BTW, I said I'm a small-time dealer...I mean it. I'm a dealer ONLY because it sold itself to me. It's cheaper to pay dealer fees and buy from myself (farm) to buy from another dealer. 90% of their products will save you money if used to their specs.

I'm one of those people who put the 15w-40 Amsoil Diesel in the tranny. Been about 3 months now. I can't say that it's hurt any, but I didn't notice too much of a difference either.

really the only difference i have found in transmission fluids is when its been extremely cold. i changed my fluid to something(i dont remember what). but it was too thick on cold mornings. to i drained it after about 600 miles. i put in syncromax and i noticed it helped a lot.

in my old saturn before the tour i had like 4 different fluids in it and didnt notice a difference... then it exploded... but thats beside the point

just filled the trans with this mtf, probably be another week before I drive it though.
I had amsoil in it already which wasn't too dirty when I drained it (about 50k miles) Got a decent price too, $9.50 a qt for the mtf and $8.10 for the oil.

enter your zip into this and find a local dealer
