Last month I had a clutch hose replaced. Then I had the engine bay steamed cleaned. I got new tags for her for 2010. She was looking good and running well. I was driving home on the 280 about two or three miles from home when tragedy struck! I heard a loud engine noise. Was it my car or the big truck next to me? I passed the truck and the noise continued. WTF? Suddenly the noise, a sort or rattle, got louder and I was losing power. I checked my guages and all was well but I knew something was up. Should I take the 10th street exit or try to make it to McLaughlin? Traffic was moderate so I opted for McLaughlin as I moved toward the right lane. Suddenly.......BANG! Clackity clack boing clunk! Something blew up and parts were trailing behind me on the road with a little smoke. Arrrrrgh! I hit my emergency flashers and pulled over to the shoulder. My oil lamp was on and the engine was silent. Curses! At least I was not in an accident and was in a great spot for a tow truck. I call AAA to come and get me while I surveyed the damage. Oil oil oil everywhere under her. Not good! So, someting blew up and I lost my oil pan and all the oil. I'm sure the engine seized consequently. What a shame! So, there she sits in front of my house for the time being while I decide just what to do with her.

I bought her brand new in September of 1998. At the time I planned to keep her for 10 years or 100 thousand miles. Well, it has been almost 11 years and the odometer reads 128,305. She met my expectation and has been a lot of fun. I don't know what I will do with her because I am unemployed and jobs are very hard to find here in the Silicon Valley. Sigh! I figure at the very least she will need a new engine, but the tranny might be shot also. I don't even have the money for a diagnostic at this point in time. Woe is me!

So me and my "Meridian Falcon" as I loved to call her are probably gonna part ways unless I hit the lottery. I'll check my options this coming week and will make a decision pending the outcome; you know, weigh my options. But, not many viable options when you have no job. Anyway, adios amigos!

Sorry to hear it went on you but they all go at some-point. 11yrs with her is a long time!

Employment in the valley is pretty bad right now - most every company I audit has done lay-offs and reduced schedules in order to survive the downturn.

Had her towed to my mechanics this morning. Preliminary inspection revealed a hole in the block along with a nice hole in the oilpan. Looks like a bearing let loose. Anyway, the engine is shot. New engine plus labor will be about 7 grand. Ouch! What a shame because the body and interior is in very good condition. I've spent close to three grand on the car during the past year only to wind up with nothing. Sigh! Oh well. Things happen for a reason I suppose. Anyone have a cheap engine laying around? LOL! She will probably wind up in a dismantler's lot. Don't want to bring her home to just sit and rot while I try to part her out. I will make a decision by Friday I suppose. It has been a good run; lots of fun. I will sorely miss her.

man that sux, wow just hearing you guys from san jose, kinda makes me miss home. I grew up off Mclaughlin ave. when you get a job and the money together you know there is no other way but 3l. I spent roughly 2G's on my 3L engine swap. of course I did it by myself. don't give up!!!

Yeah 7k is pretty steep. You can get a good 3l for 400, port the heads and such (total around 2k as gt2 says). Check out blackcoogs site, 3lduratec.com, says he can do one installed for 3k, but you'd have to ship him your car.

Thanks guys! I've decided to look for a new used engine. I also found a mechanic to install it for me. Hmmm, a 3 liter sounds nice. I will look into that.

I just got back into my '95 ported 3L after driving my new SVT for about a week. Holy crap what a difference. Get that 3L and enjoy your car all over again!

Where is a good source for used 3L engines? Thanks!

I ordered mine from LKQ in Los Angeles, Because we do not have an LKQ in san diego. but they shipped it to me for free to a local shop that they deal with and i just picked it up there. My engine actually was shipped from Stockton since the LA one didn't have one. it only took 3 days to get it. there are More LKQ's in northern california so you should have no problem getting a motor. I paid $600 for my 02 36k motor. they have some cheaper with more milage. I've seen them as cheap as $400. I tried getting an SVT motor but they are so hard to locate and are not cheap.

oh and one other thing and i've should of done this while engine was out. you should send your valve covers to Blu so he can powder coat them!

I used car-part.com to source mine, an 03 sable with 33k for 400 bucks. Look for places that provide warranty (not for the warranty per say, since you'll be modifying it, but so that there's less chance they're selling you a busted one to start with).

whoa! now thats a good deal. I used car-part too and that took me to LKQ.

I got mine from Bay Auto Parts. Here are some other good-to-OK motors/prices really close to me:

Yeah, I get the impression that motors are a bit more in general here in CA than in the rest of the country. GT2SVT, I wouldn't worry about a couple of hundy, if its running good you got a good deal.

I would pay $600 fo any 3L between 10-40k. It's like a new car for $600, that's a good deal to me.
