Hey Guys, Im thinking of removing my air conditioner because since I had my car I never used or fixed it.

What does this involve. What tubing/piping parts have to be removed to complete this successfully and without causing any problems to anything else in the car including the heating.

What happens if I turn on the air conditioning from inside the car once I have removed everything? Will I just get a fan or will I get problems?

assuming there is no refrigerant still in the lines (if there is have it evacuated properly) simply remove the compressor, the condensor, the dryer and all AC lines. very simple to do, you just need the fuel/AC line disconnect tools in the right sizes which can be had at your local parts store for pretty cheap.

once its removed, if you turn on the AC or defrost you will just get the fan. you will still have control over the heat mixture too. basically every setting just becomes vent.

Also what kind of Serpentine Belt would I have to get. All my pulleys and such are stock. I may get a DMD (if that makes a difference, i think not)

Planning on ever selling car? You will lose at least $500 value to car with it gone or buyer is stupid. 'Course, may not matter up north. Down here in Texas, car will not sell with no a/c.

Dont really plan on selling the car. Not for how much I put into it. To get 8-12k will be the biggest loss.

Only car I would trade it for is a Terminator and that may be hard for the Cobra owner. Besides its been a couple years that Ive owned the car and havent refilled or diagnosed the AC System so Im thinking about just taking it out(still not a final decision tho).

I didnt really trace the ac lines but in front of the radiator there is another cooler/radiator which looks like it is connected to the AC Lines. What is this for. I have the smaller one(PS Cooler) off. So I was wondering what the other one was for is the the condensor?

You do know that the AC comes on with the defrost setting right? If yours is non functional, then it wont make a difference to you, but I was just letting you know, because it does help a lot with defogging your windows.

If you don't drive your car in the winter or during cold rains, then it still wouldn't be a problem, I just wanted to point this stuff out though.

Heat will work the same..... AC usually makes it worse anyways!

Never really used it that way. Ill try in my other car that doesnt hold the AC 94a......

As you can see I really dont mind not having it as I dont fix it on any of my cars.

well, like I said, just pointing it out. At least this way, if anyone else reads the thread, they know the AC does something for them in cold weather too.

I've removed my AC from my Mondeo and it was pretty simple. The system was drained already as it hadn't been charged for a few years. The compressor was removed from the block and a shorter non-ac belt sourced. The pipes were then disconnected as they enter the bulkhead and then the pipes were taken out of the engine bay. Then the AC radiator was removed and that was it, job done. Gives a cleaner look to the engine bay and takes a little load off the engine. Also hoping the removal of the radiator will aid flow through to the main rad.

I got it out... I had a hard time using my Metal Universal Fuel/AC Line remover so I bought the Plastic Kind for a couple bucks and that did the trick in 1 shot...
