OK i know there are like 100 ac threads open right now but nothing with my exact symptoms. My 99 contour se stood for about a month when I was on business, started it up Tuesday without an issue, kicked on the ac it it blew out ice cold like always. Went to go use the AC again on Thursday and all of a sudden its not working. Now I checked the R134 level and its fine (alittle low so I topped it off), got down on my back and had my girl friend cycle the ac switch to see if the clutch engages and it doesn't. I did have the problem where the relay was going and the ac was on all the time, I never replaced the relay. Can I assume that the relay died completely since it all of a sudden doesn't work. I mean blows out warm air. I am assuming if the clutch was going it would slowly get worse and then cut out not stop all together. Any ideas let me know.

How much does a compressor go for anyways?

Thanks,
~Dan

i would first check to make sure the compressor is still connected to the wiring harness. i spent two weeks trying to figure out what i had done and then finally had the idea to check connections. come to find out the compressor was unplugged.

The compressor electrical plug will be right there on the compressor itself. No plug no power. The relay should be under the hood.

Take a screw driver and listen to the relay, just put the tip of the screwdriver on the realy and the handle to your ear. If you hear clicking the relay is probably not the problem. I have a 98, and I think it has a couple relays. Been a while since I had to deal with ac problems, but getting ready to work on it again.

Alright so I have verified that the compressor is plugged in. To check the relay, do I need only to turn the key so all of the accesories come on? or do I need to start the engine? I would think just till the accessories come on.

Thanks for the help guys.

~Dan

Having some of the same problems, last fall AC was working fine, this spring, on hot day, tried to use the AC, and it didn't work, checked level of 134 and was little low. But while checking the level, the compresser kicked on and off about every 3 seconds, on for 2 or 3 seconds, then off for 2 or 3 seconds. does this all the time and was afraid to put 134 in as couldn't get a good reading with it kicking on and off. I have no idea where the relay is or if its bad. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try putting in some refrigerant and see if it helps.

I did put in some 134, it helped alittle. Still can't help wondering if the compresser should cycle on and off like that if there is something else wrong?

my SHO did the same thing when i was filling the system. until it was completely full it would cycle on and off. the more i filled it the longer between cycles. perhaps you should fill it more and see if that helps.
