Ok, to start out my a/c has not been working and well with the ridiculous heat and humidity lately i took it to get it check out. Turns out, they added just under a pound an half. Great no big deal and now i had ice cold a/c... for a week and half. So i took it back and had them look for a leak, three different mechanics looked over my car and could not find the a/c leak (they used uv dye). They said there was no freon in it and that the only thing left is the evaporator. Do you think that it is the evaporator or do you think its something else? How hard is it to replace myself? Cause they were saying about a 7-8 hour job. Any suggestions/tips/fixes are welcome.

Thanks

Sounds more like a bad seal than an evaporator leak, but then again the leak could be at the connection to or from the evaporator.

Do you have any recommendations to fix that or do i just have to start tearing apart the dash? ;P

You could try one of the refill kits that has sealant in it.
Get the Interdynamics kit. It is sold at autoparts stores. $39. Comes with refrigerant with dye, refrigerant with sealant and UV pen. That way you can check where the leak is coming from. Note that the sealant will only work if the leak is small. However, a small or large leak will show up as a big green blotch when you use the UV pen.

Have you noticed an odd odor coming from your vents? This would usually be right when you turn the A/C on and it would smell almost sour and rubbery. This would be the freon leaking from your evap core.

The seals for the evaporator are located in the engine bay on the firewall. I would look for a leak at dusk when there isn't much ambient light. They checked the condensor and accumulator? Both of those are more likely to be leaking. The condensor gets a lot of road debris which could puncture it and the accumulator sometimes has a foam insulation around it that unfortunatley allow it to rust out with pin hole leaks.

Tony2005: The place i took it already put the UV dye in it, and that is how they couldn't find the leak, because none of the dye showed up.

greasemonkey1489: No i never smelled any weird odors coming from my vents, but even after i put the recharge kit in it, i still didn't have any weird smells.

ctmystique: Interesting, i'll have to try that.

Thank you all for your help, i'll come back with results soon as i can.
