99 tranmission issues

I have a 99 contour, the transmission is acting weird although i dont think it is the transmission that the issue is with, because it only does it sometimes and i can be on the highway doing 70 and it will shift down on me causing my rpms to go Out of whack so i got to slow down, when i start the car it idles high if i dont wait for it to idle down before i put it in gear then it will jerk and clunk around to get into gear. Someone said check teh transmission sensors and when i had autozone run codes one of them said the transmission sensor but i hear there is 3 of them so what do i do or if you have other suggestions let me know! please

from the info you have posted here i would say that it sounds like when my MLPS (or range sensor) went out.

does it like slam into gears in and out my cougar did the same thing if it just bounces in and out of gear if so that issue was Netural safety switch im assuming you have a automatic
