98 CSVT-intake manifold runner control

I have a 98 CSVT with 206,000 miles on it. She has been a fantastic car-but now I took it in for a tune up and they said there are error codes showing that the intake manifold runner control has gone bad. It sounds like a very expensive fix...does anyone have experience with this on their CSVT?

Any help/input would be awesome!

Yeah, this is an easy, inexpensive DIY fix, basic metric handtools and 10 minutes tops. Did they say if it was stuck open, or stuck closed? Try this thread, it has good info:

Always best to pop the hood open and rev the engine and see if its really working or not. You can easily see it open and close. Or not do anything. Use to be an argument that the black cover that says DURATEC 2.5L V6, etc, holds heat/limits airflow, causing the IMRC to die an early death. Argument, because some have had no trouble for 200K, while others have had to replace 2-3...
 
Thanks for the info guys-I am not sure if it is stuck open or stuck closed. All I know is I honestly dont think I can fix it myself so I am going to have to let the mechanic do it. Any thoughts on how much it should cost? THey said 3 hours labor atleast plus parts...
 
You may be able to talk to a local CEG'er around your area. It'll be alot cheaper than a mechanic. You'll probably be looking at around 5-600.
 
what happens a lot is that the little plastic clip falls out. heres a picture of it. its the little yellow clip below the throttle body. check to make sure yours is still hooked up

3 hours labor atleast? You don't need a new IMRC, you need a new mechanic. Your username suggests female, if so, another example of women being taken advantage of. Find a new garage. Where in Oregon are you?
