I have a 96 Contour, and sometimes when I stop at a stop light the car will stall. Also sometimes when I make a right turn off of a freeway, or even a left turn, and come to a stop the veh will die..Also I noticed that sometimes when it dies not all the time, the car will make a really loud noise. Almost like a fog horn, and it does this before it dies.. It doesn't die everytime I do any of the above, but it is getting more frequent.. Also when im driving, and I either turn the wheel to the right, or make a right turn there is a really loud vibrating noise that sounds like its coming from the right side of the veh. But since sound travels on a car it could be the left side. But you can also feel the vibration in the gas pedal.. I just purchased the car, and am at a loss with it all ready... The veh has 88,000 miles on it.. If anyone has any idea what it could be i would appreciate it.. Thanks in advance..

Welcome :) . Alway post the year, transmission (Auto or manual), mileage and engine (V6 Duratec or I4 Zetec). Most of us put it in our signature.

If you have a V6, it could be the "moose".
Post #7 in this thread for moose info.

Do you hear a hissing sound in the engine bay? That could mean a broken vacuum tube/hose.

You may also have a bad or dirty Idle Air Control IAC valve.

Yes, you do have to open the hood to check. ;)

Edit. Is the yellow Check Engine Light on? Take it to Autozone or Advance Auto for a free reading of the code(s) and post the exact code(s) here.

It is a 96 v6 duratec. The engine light doesnt stay on, but the coolant light comes on when you start the veh, and stays on for a few minutes. I dont hear any type of hissing sound. Its more of a loud vibration noise if anything.. I will do the autozone thing, and post the codes.. Also I dont know if the noise it makes when i turn to the right is related to the reason it dies or not... The car is an automatic Thanks a lot...

Where would the IAC be located...

Coolant should be half inch above max line in the reservoir. The sensor is a little "quirky".

In addition, you need to put engine oil half quart above max line. The Owners' Manual states 5.5 quarts for oil/filter change but we (I) put 6 quarts. This is to ward off the "engine oil starvation issue". It is not as critical for Automatics but sometimes the tranny does shift to lower gears when I am on a long sweeping right hand turn (off ramp going uphill).

This is more than likely your TCS (traction control system). It normally is only activated when one of the front wheels loses traction and turns faster than the other. I don't know if your problem is normal or a malfunction.
