Hi all, Been a while. I went to the old board and was confised when I saw the latest post were done on 9/5/06. Then I read the announcments. Nice looking board here.

Anyway, my 96 2.0 auto (Contour) has something sloppy in the shifter, cable or linkage. I almost can not get the park position to lock in park. (Car not rolling away). It also will not start in that park postion. It usually starts in reverse or neutral, depending on which way the shifter was moved last.

Seems that someting is loose, causing the transmission to not select at the same rate that the shiftr lever is moved. I thought perhaps someone can send me in the proper direction before I dig too deeply in the wrong place.

Thanks in advance,
Dale

Thanks Tony. The link from Autozone got me headed in the right direction. Turns out, the cable has been loosened/pushed out of that adjuster. I'm now hoping that the crazy glue will hold that back in place. I cleaned good inside and out with alchol. After putting some CG inside and out and working the fitted joint around, it felt like the CG was softening the plastics. I've found that generally, if the CG softens the plastics, once set you get a fairly nice bond.

Any other suggestions for getting this cable to stay in the adjuster, if the CG does not hold? It's just the bonded area between the cable sheath and the molded/movable part of the adjuster that let got. I'm sure it's bonded originally, some how.

Thanks again,
Dale
